Things Musicians NEVER SAY in the studio!!!

I opened my studio in 1998. In that time, musicians have said a lot of profound things. These are not those things.

After many, many years or recording bands professionally, here's a few things that not a single musician has said. EVER.
**I make absolutely no claims of originality in this video.** If you don't find this funny, blame TJ. It was his idea.

"I think I'm too loud in the mix"

It's nice that Benjamin Franklin understands the struggles that musicians go through

Thing recording engineers NEVER THINK:

I'm not the smartest guy in the room.

"Of course I'll turn down the distortion on my guitar amp so you can hear what I'm playing"
"Of course you can set up the amp/ampsim, because you know how it will sound best in the mix"
I just needed to bash the guitar players a bit. We're not bashed enough about shitty tone.

"I'm kinda a genius"
"This is the best song I've ever written. I know that because I was just ripping off Devin Townsend."
"So if I just play fast through the whole thing no one will notice all the bad notes right?"
"What's a scale?"

Thing I've never heard in a rehearsing room.
"Y'know, maybe I should drop my guitar solo on this song."
"No, no, no, I'm the bass, part of the rythm section, you follow me."
"Yes, I've totally memorised my lyrics"
"Yes, I'm  totally happy with my guitar tone and I don't need to mess with the settings anymore."
"Of course I will let you know if I'm going to be late for rehearsal!"
"Hey guys, I've bought some really good weed and I thought we could smoke it together after practice."
"Of course, I've got ear protection!"
"I think my amp is too loud."
"No, I'm not drumming in any other bands."
"I think this sounds too much like Led Zeppelin."
"Give me a few minutes to tune my bass."
"I think this sounds too much like Kyuss."
"Of course I still like the song we've written last week."
"I think this sounds too much like Slayer."
"I know that the bass part is really hard but I love a challenge. By next week, I will have it nailed!"
"I think this sounds too much like Black Sabbath."
"Of course I will remember!"
"Does it sound like any band we know?"

I love this guy he is so opinionated and doesn't give a shit about what others think. It's really important to be so straight in the music industry because of how many people will wast your time and mostly your money. Also the years of experience backs him up so he isn't just a arrogant ass, but a arrogant ass that knows what he is talking about.

Have just watched your video on How not to suck at Heavy Rock Drums and How not to suck as a bass guitarist, not only very insightful, but the points you stated, loved them. I worked with a bassist who is summed up to the T in your bass video. SpectreSoundStudios, keep up the good work and all the best for you for 2016

"What do you mean, you need the money right now? Can't we pay you with the sales of our record?"

1:38 That sounds like a thing they actually DO say.

Didn't any musician ever say: "If I could play that solo any better, I wouldn't be recording in YOUR studio!"?

Okay. Now, I know exactly what and what not to say (and/or) do in certain situations.

Thank you very much for this educational lesson, sir.

Getting this recommended to me today even though I already watched it 5 years ago. Time to relive a classic!
