Why 86% Of Musicians Will Never Become Successful | Are You One Of THEM?!

Let's be honest, most musician fail to turn music into a career and it's not because they lack the musical ability. You might think I'm going to say that they fail because they don't understand marketing, but that's not even it. The root of the problem is far deeper than talent or marketing systems and it's heartbreaking because it can be avoided completely. The issue is that most people don't even know that they're part of the problem so that they can snap out of it and get back on track. This video will trigger some people and that's ok. It needed to be said.

Which of the three groups have you found yourself in? Are you still doing those things or have you been able to pull yourself out and get on track? Let me know as a reply to this comment or in the comments below.

Straight in our face, real talk; thanks Adam for lecturing us for our laziness, hesitation - it's not always the gear, it's the skills

I am a self produced musician, and write my own music... For the longest time, I was taking the time to share my music with everyone, WAY before it was ready to be shown.. what im trying to say is, i was looking for outside validation... for 3 years, i was on this outside validation path.... and just recently, within the last 2 months, i told myself... "what the fuck? im the only one that matters... why do i search for outside validation?" I pulled all my music... and refocused.. I took action, 2 months ago... I decided to book a show...

not only that, but i decided to get off the couch, change my diet, and suit up...

I am stoked for November 19th, as its my first show as a solo artist.. and just today, i booked 4 more shows...

here we go!!

thank you Adam.

man, being the craftsman really hits home. pretty much everyone here in these comments has the tools to make it by tapping into some new sound, way of making music that hasn't been done before but we just move on to the next song instead of constantly trying to upgrade ourselves - I've been trying to add at least one new effect, style thing etc to each song to improve my craft and its been pretty enlightening!

I’m gonna bring back 90’s hip hop but make it sound modernized. A perfect mix that two separate generations can vibe to.

I performed at an open mic night last night for the first time. I had been putting it off for so long because I was paralyzed by fear. I had loads of technical issues, messed up the guitar in places and didn't sing so well because of my nerves. But I bit the bullet and did it, got some great advice from other musicians there, so I'm gna keep doing and t try to get better.

You miss 100% of the shots you don't take. Great quote.

Definitely in the first group. Was paralyzed by fear and shame for so long, still am. But then thought how much I’d regret it if I did not even try. So I did it, released a song on Spotify and even if it is not much I am proud of taking the first step. Also the second group but I am more of a sucker for lessons than gear, I want knowledge! Still working on believing in myself :D

This one got me Adam, doing music and making it a career, worked for me but so many of the people I produced or helped over the years, simply quit or gave up because they couldn't see past the fear of not making it and many of them hate there current jobs and it makes me heated cause they will never know what could have been, that's one of the worst pains man, thank you for these videos, it will save those who choose to get up and try!!

Thank you for making these videos. I’m 30 years old and just got back into making music this year. My wife encouraged me to go back to school for audio engineering and I have been so busy between family life work and school. But the more I invest (time and money) into reaching my goals and getting better at my craft the more I realize that old statement “you only get out what you put in” is true. To everyone out there making plans to reach your goals keep on keeping on.

Your honesty is refreshing sir. No matter what you do, you have to work and find out ways to make it happen.

This is what I needed to hear.

I am #1.

I loved music growing up but lacked the resources. So I got an education and now I am an software engineer. Now I am afraid to be split my efforts between work and music. But I know its possible.

If artists like Lane8 were able to do it, so can I.

I am not a musician, but YouTube steered me to your channel. Great content, great psychology. Sound advice.

The fact that I haven't started yet and I'm already getting depressed over being a failure.

After 15 years of recording 23 years of studying music, I have learned a few things.

What this guy says is the basics of being correct, but its just the tip of the ice burg.

When you pursue the damn near impossible be prepared to spend every waking moment dedicating your life to achieving that gole.

On the outside you see the hype, you see the videos, the advertisments, the success, the stars, and beyond.

But what you dont see is what it took to get there....

In music, there are loads of deceptions and misinformation out there...

Its easy to get sucked into the sess pool of bullshit and lies.... and quickly...

The reality is, your going to need education, practice, limitless hours of training, and none of it is easy at first..

As a rock musician, your building blisters on your hands with sticks and strings.... it hurts.... drummers.... you know the blood blisters.... Guitarists can play until their fingers bleed....

The reality is, if you dont enjoy sitting down and playing with noise no matter the cost, your not cut out for the job...

I reccomend learning more than one instrument....

But as soon as you go chasing that dream...

Your busted...

Your parents are going to stop you...

Your teachers are going to hate you....

Your friends wont tollerate it....

The fact is, the time you spend doing free time things...

It all goes to the music...

Its a lonely life...

And good luck finding band mates in the age of and pre recorded audio...

It just Sucks because your most likely to start out a jack of all trades... for lack of recruited hands because nobody wants to play REAL MUSIC anymore....

You will likely spend thousands of dollars and countless time on the side of the road as a guy who lives in your car....

Hard to rent a place when your lugging music equipment around.... most land lords renting bed rooms hate that...

You have to find quiet methods to record shit demo after shit demo....

Trust me.... your going to sound like shit until you get THE PROCESS of writing and recording DOWN.... as well as mixing and mastering...

Its a cryptic art...

It took me 15 years to perfect my process with the help of Glenn, Chris Lipe, Jarod Dines, Steve T, Leo, and Mixcraft Master class....

I posted my process below...

This gets easy.... but its the furthest thing standing from easy....

Unless your rich and you can pay for a high education on this and your smart enough to figure this out....

You will be lucky if you write something worth everyones time...

Education is everything...

Thank you for this pep talk!

Got to turn the vision into reality.

but hard work will get you there.
