as someone who has been in a real lock down with a armed man it was so scary the teacher had to beg for us not to cry she started passing out skittles to keep our minds busy it was scary bc the shooter was banging on the door and we heard yelling and a gunshot and it went completely silent he had been shot and we were fine it was scary

First story: Stay quiet when you're alone in a bathroom during a lockdown.
Second story: Schools need to give new teachers a crash course on lockdowns, and probably basic self defence (at least).
Third story: Take the child with you if they're alone.
Simple mistakes that led to people almost dying.

Teacher: everyone be quiet, the intruders are in the school.
Kid: starts screaming
Teacher: youve doomed us all

What awful teachers in the third story. Just leaving a kid alone in an unlocked classroom during a lockdown like wtf

It’s insane that we live in a society where students cannot get a decent education without worrying if they will even come back to school alive the next day. It is sickening, and I send out prayers to anyone that has gone through this shit.

First grade and other young grades must be extremely stressful in lockdowns.

So I actually had a fairly unique experience with lockdown drills. Back in Highschool I had a history teacher who happened to be a petty officer in the Navy. He made sure to drill us every lockdown drill as if the school were actually to be put in lockdown. However unlike the traditional “stay out of sight and cower in a corner routine” he taught us how to form a defensive plan of action and put it into effect. His first lesson involved stacking desks from the wall all the way to the door. The reason for this is that it transfers all the energy applied to the door into the wall meaning in order for someone to bust down the door, they have to apply enough force bust through 8 inch thick concrete walls. The second thing he taught us was how to make offensive weapons. This one might shock some of you, but as it turns out you can make a fairly good crossbow out of school supplies. The other weapon he taught us to make was less complex and simply involved breaking apart a pair of large scissors and using the blades as twin wielded knives. The final lesson was taking defensive positions. The way our classrooms were built in my Highschool was the door was made of synthetic wood but was thick enough to resist low caliber bullet fire and there was a small rectangular window next to it. So during lockdown drills we’d place the biggest guy in the classroom next to the door on the opposite side from the window, that way if someone shot through the door they wouldn’t get hit and if they tried to break the glass and unlock the door the person their would stab their hand with the scissor blades. The rest of us would flip our desks over and stack them into barricades to provide ourselves with concealment to hide behind until we’d pop out and shoot any intruder with our makeshift crossbows.
Looking back, the whole thing was very unorthodox but it gave us confidence for situations that would have otherwise been extremely tense.

I live in Australia and there was one time when our whole school went into lockdown because 2 very aggressive kangaroos manage to knock out a staff and get in through the doors. The announcement said there was a kangaroo and me and the boys just laughed until they said it wasn't a drill. They were only in there for about 6 minutes but they were bigger than I thought.

It’s crazy how people just don’t care about life, like really “who’s in here”?

When your stuck in the bathroom in a lockdown 😭👀🙏

This is why I’d not regularly use the bathroom in school unless in the morning when people are still walking in

Being NOT from the US, school attacks and lockdown drills are such a weird concept for me.

The last time we had drills was at the end of Apartheid in the early 90s. Even those were merely drills as we've never had a school shooting and our last mass shooting was in 1927.

Must be really stressful.

One time, we had a lockdown that wasn't a drill, and everyone was genuinely freaking out. You could hear teachers yelling to clear the halls and rushing kids into random classrooms (this was just before 1st period). We didnt find out until the next day that it was a "false alarm" because these two kids started a huge fight that dragged in 5 other kids.
