BMW N55 Valve Cover Replacement - X6/X5/X3/535i/435i/335i

My chip shortage bargain project (BMW X5 E70- N55) has an oil leak from the valve cover gasket (causing smoke), and codes: 2BC0, 2BEA, 28A0, P112F, P0300, P0301, P0302, and P0305.

Watch as I tackle the valve cover, ignition coils, and spark plugs replacement to try and eliminate my codes (and the smoke from engine).

According to all the service guidelines, it's not recommended to use permatex or other liquid gasket material with these installations. Removal also seems to be easier if you had disconnected the harnesses in the giant plastic shroud at the back of the motor and moved them to one side - I believe the connectors are in the well under the cabin filter, and you could shift the entire bundle over the intake manifold.

Thank you, replaced my valve cover gasket on my 640i following this video, when removing valve cover the plastic piece that clips inside valve cover disconnected from valve cover, reinstalled valve cover without putting that plastic piece back on inside valve cover ! (Forgot about it)

How important is that for functioning of the car ???

I'm in the middle of this same project and had the same issue getting the cover out. You said the install would be easier, but you didn't show it. You mentioned it was tough so how did you do it? I'm panicing that I'll never get the thing on again with the gasket intact.
