I'm a server at Texas Roadhouse. I've learned to smile at everything no matter what

Adding a personal hand written thank you! To the bottom of the check is one of the greatest ideas ive heard! And I know that almost no waiters do it.

Finally a professional that has said you need to go above and beyond the normal job to get a gratuity. Just because you chose that job doesn't mean you deserve a tip.

This was an awesome video. I am a server and have been so for over a year. My restaurant is located in what would be considered a "question" area, smack dab in the middle of a poor community and a more affluent one. I get everyone, from the ones who will tip you no more than five dollars, no matter how great their service was, and those who come back and will ONLY dine in if I am there and tip relatively well. I am always looking  for ways to improve and I felt your video did just that. Asking yourself "how can i make their experience better?" will make you a top tip maker, no matter where you go. I do it always in some arenas, because i truly do want to take care of my guests, but this helped me realize how much room for improvement I have. THANKS!!!

I am 22 and am a server at Applebee's as my side job bc I love working. I have worked there for about 5 months and am pretty decent at it and I am a lot better than I thought I would be. The part where you said to write "thank you mr or mrs ____" stood out to me and am thinking maybe doing that to promote more happiness although I usually get friendly or mellow customers. I always ask if they need anything else when taking their order or bringing them their beverages and food and I offer to take empty plates if I see any.

I also use the name when they pay. And I can say it definitely works.

Adding a hand written thank you on the receipt is masterclass

Thanks, I’ve just become a waiter at ruby Tuesdays in Ohio. Just moving here from Los Angeles, the pace is definitely different. I’ve never been a server before but I’m definitely getting the hang of it. I’ve gotten notes on my receipts says “great service! But the bathroom sinks.” Now I bleach the bowls and drains before my shifts, I know this video is 6 years old or so. I’d just like for you to know your information is still valued and appreciated. Thank you!

I should hope the majority of people in the service industry already know and implement these techniques, but it's good for us to hear it every once in a while to keep us mindful.

You're so right about putting thank you on the recipt! I am going to try that from now today. I have 2 specific couple customers that always come in and they're really nice and chit chatty and I know exactly what they order but I've never learned them as a person, only an order

Good point with thanking them by name! Nobody ever mentioned that one to me!!

personality, influence, persuasion goes a long way, just being you will not cut it!

In addition to what you say, I spent years learning how to entertain my customers by integrating magic and humor into the service. For example, if they order a cup of water I make it appear out of an empty paper bag, or produce a ketchup bottle out of nowhere, make their bill levitate, etc. I only do a few quick, but strong magic tricks with some humor, then I move on to serving the next customer. There is so much magic a server in the restaurant context, all related to the job itself. Since I started doing this it consistently increased my tips by 25 to 30%, and now I have a regular clientele who comes looking for the "magician."

Great points. A customers name is music to their ears. (just don't say their room number out loud)
