Nvidia 4080 Super: Linux vs Windows Performance Battle

Are Nvidia drivers good for gaming in Linux shortly put Nvidia in Linux gaming. I'm comparing Windows vs Linux gaming at 1440p using a 4080 Super and a 7800x3D, including RT on and Off as well as Path Tracing

thx man this is the best benchmarking video for nvidia performance on linux. although you should have added more dx11 titles as that is where linux shines the most. dx12 games still need more time to mature on linux. with that being said however, u can still get similar performance on both windows and linux for dx11/10/9 games by using dxvk. please keep making these videos as it will give the community an insight on whether to switch to linux or not. i did the mistake of switching recently with the new explicit sync driver for nvidia on wayland and was deeply humbled by the lower performance.

seems nvidia has a much bigger performance hit compared to windows, while amd seems to be on par or higher than windows from what i've seen. another reason for me to switch to amd

Nvidia has to work on Linux drivers, but I'm not sure how many people are gaming on Linux. Maybe they don't care that much about Linux in general.

Why DL2 is only with RT ON? It's known Linux nVidia drivers suck at RT. Seems very biased to not include RT off.

The comparison doesn't really make sense. It is based on windows games that use D3D a Windows-exclusive API. Of course, it's no wonder that this performs better if run natively than run trhough an emulation by DXVK. Bit this is nothing about the driver quality in a technical manner. To compare the drivers and NOT NATIVE VERSUS EMULATED you should compare Linux/Windows native games. There are some Vulkan games like X-Plane 11/12 that usually perform around 5% better on Linux even on NVIDIA.

So sad that nvidia drivers on linux arent as good as on windows, like nvidia is 3.3trillion dollar company and could easily make good linux drivers with their resources. Just upgraded my pc and noticing drop in performance on linux so I have to dual boot :(

Thanks so much for this video. I have searched a bit about performance differences between nvidia and amd on linux and this shows how much issues nvidia has compared to amd. I have an old 1080 that i need to upgrade and it will be amd! Didnt think the difference would be this big. Would be interesting to see a direct comparison between amd and nvidia on linux too. And a 4k would be perfect but i understand your capturecard didnt support 4k, however when u do a 1440p benchmark you could just write the results u get on 4k without showing the direct capture of it. I am sure many 4k gamers like me would be happy 😊 Again, thanks for the video!
