What's New in Windows Server 2012, Episode 20: RDS - Remote Desktop Services & RemoteApp

In this episode I will show you how to set up a simple RemoteApp and Remote Desktop Services (RDS) infrastructure in your test lab using both a self-signed cert and a real cert. How to create so published apps, etc. This is a fun one.

Sound was good at the beginning and then dropped annoying low for the rest of the video. This is a really good video because it covers the use of the RD Gateway for Internet connectivity and the certificate setup. It also shows how to easily integrate the Remote Apps into the start menu, which from then on update themselves. Not see these else where, so glad to have found about this. Thanks for sharing.

Great job explain ALL the little pieces that go into setting up RD. Most videos out there are tremendously vague. "Click this, install this, go to the client click this and your in."  I’m taking Microsoft server 2012 classes right now for the 410, 411, etc test and my teachers are vague at times, merely due to the time constraints of the course.  Thanks again for the video and I look forward to watching more to help me progress in my IT skills.

This is a great video, best one I have seen in setting up RDS on 2012R2, including setting up self signed certificates.  I've yet to find one the matches this one in simplicity. Fantastic!  Thank you.

Excellent video! We're installing RDS on one of our existing Server 2012 boxes soon, so this has been really useful. Can you tell me what type of trusted SSL you have in this video - standard (single domain) or UCC? We'll only be using the one box, so all of the RDS roles will be installed on that. The remote apps we will publish will be accessed by internal and some external users, so am unsure what type of SSL to go for.

Hi @Frank Snyder. You could do this either by publishing mstsc.exe in the windows\system32 folder to allow them to remote directly to the server or to another server on your network. Or, you could install QuickBooks on the server and then publish it so they could run it as a remoteapp.

How does one get the remote desktop setup through RDS? The Remote APP RDWeb page is cool, but how would we allow them to connect to a desktop to run a specific program, like quickbooks?
