The fact that you could maintain an stratight face talking about the Dildotron 2000 Generator is amazing.

My girlfriend is apparently obsessed with bladeless wind turbines, she even has a prototype in her nightstand.

The main thing I learned is that peak performance of the column is based on stiffness, which is related to how it is blown. Thank you, I hope to apply this lesson to my personal life.

100 years ago, windmills were a common sight across rural America. They were usually used to pump water, but they were often adapted to produce electricity.

I can imagine it now... Looking down the hill to the village as the sun sets. Atop each house sits a wiggling column. A gust of wind blows through, and the columns rejoice, adding a few more strokes to their wiggles.

"Wiggling column" 🤔 That's the most polite description for that solid state wind device. 😁

Hi Matt, I'm in the UK and wind farms here are mainly offshore, making their upkeep even more expensive. The government arent doing anything to help the energy rape taking place here, whilst in France the energy firms have had their increase capped at 4% here in the UK we are looking at a 200% price hike in energy costs. Thanks for your informative channel, I would probably opt for 6 of the Powerpods along my house ridge, but a planning permission application is £400 ($500) and that covers just one device, each additional device is another charge. So you see they would let me fit them - but they want their cut of my investment and my savings. We are all being charged.

My granddaughter graduates in June in environmental engineering. I'm thrilled to see the evolution of wind and solar energy in my life time. We have so much talent in America. Keep up the search for more efficient power supplies. 😎😍🎶🎶🎶

You paint that "wiggling column" the right shade of green and it would blend right into any desert as just another cactus.

The oscillating one could be painted green and multiplied to probably resemble grass rustling in the wind, which I'm pretty sure is universally more pleasing than its current design.

Matt (& team), 1) Undecided is a brilliant name, reminding us to have an open mind - so important on many fronts. 2) Entertaining, detailed and thorough-ish, just when I was getting down on solar because of environmental concerns, you've opened my mind to the new potential of wind power. Thank you, dad jokes and all.

I always thought the bird issue wasn't the number but the type.

Cats and windows kill small common birds while wind farms were killing large birds of prey which are fewer in number

I think put together 2 power pods and the wiggler and you've got yourself a party.

5:04 "Warning, it looks a little weird."
Just wait until they start installing spherical batteries at the base to store excess power. You know, in pairs. For redundancy! 😁

Living in a place like San Francisco, it seems a bit absurd that there aren't PowerPods or Savonius turbines all over the place. They seem like the perfect local alternative to rooftop solar in a place where the sun can be hard to find but the wind is basically a given.

I love how all these ideas are essentially the reverse of the existing home appliance, i.e. reverse air-purifier and a reverse "toy", such good example of innovation

The EWICON was installed when I studied in Delft. I was looking at it at with some friends while guessing wat it was. A professor overheard us and explained what it was, with a dissapointed tone he said that the proto type doesnt work but that they learned valueble lessons in the building proces. They never even bothered to attach it to the grid.

There is also barotrauma—internal injuries caused by exposure to rapid pressure changes near the trailing edges of moving blades

Great video. I started work in 1977 for the UK Department of Energy, and wind, wave and solar power were all being researched way back then, but it was probably the oil and gas industries lobbyists that killed the ideas off otherwise they would have been here sooner and be more advanced. Thank you!
