“Phone charge that lasts for weeks”. No. The energy density of solid state batteries will be higher, but that’s really pushing it

It would be cool if the solid-state battery's inventor were named John B. Evenbetter.

This is not how solid state battery behave. At the moment the actual solid state battery have less energy density (about 200/220wh/kg vs average ncm at 240/260) and recharge slower. But on the other side they can be charged to 100% whiteout damaging it thanks to a lower delta, and discharge to 0. Also will last a lot more life cycle and they will
Not catch on fire if punctured. We will see in future what we will got.

Re: 10 minutes to charge a car?
Yeah except if it's a 100 kWH battery, you're gonna need a source of electricity that's 600 kW. Which is a really crazy amount of power.

Phone charge currently lasts a few days? Are we talking Nokia 330 here?!

Solid state catch fire when damaged as well.

Another, "just around the corner" battery story.

We have been waiting for these for over a decade

“Go Go Johnny Go! Johnny B Good!”
Releases SSBs to poor reception…
“I guess you’re not quite ready for that, but your kids are gunna love it” 😂

My original Motorola and Nokia lasted week. The problem is we've shrunk the phones down. we've added more processing power and insist that it has to be super thin at the expense of everything headphone jacks included.

Old news mixed with sensational crap. Solid state is projecting 2x energy, so phone lasts all day instead of half a day.

If I took a shot for every time I hear "solid state batteries are the future and will replace standard lithium batteries" i would be dead from alcohol poisoning.

I like how he said how they work, not explained how they work 😂

Imagine a charge on a phone lasting days instead of hours.

Lol who the hell has a phone battery that lasts a few days

Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries are a mature technology which solves the temperature runaway issue. They're increasingly common in EVs.

Eh, phones COULD last that long on solid-state batteries but what's more likely is manufacturers will just use this opportunity to pack more hardware into electronics and just make significantly smaller batteries for the same/slightly longer battery life.

We're really crawling along with the solid-state battery, and the closest we have, is disappointing re charge density, and AFAIK, dendrite formation. (one of the things we thought would go away with SSBs.)

A phone that lasts for days on a single charge is practically unheard of in modern smartphones. Every phone (of all budget ranges from extreme low-end to top tier high-end) that I've ever used never lasted longer than 10 hours of my daily tasks.
