Every time I do it, exactly like this, I immediately get a tangled mess that locks up the machine after about, oh, four stitches or so. I've redone it about 20 times tonight and I'm about to throw this machine through the window

What if the top thread isn’t picking up the bobbin thread? I’ve checked every troubleshooting idea on the website (plus everything else I could think of), and it’s still not picking up the thread. I’m at a loss. I’ve never had this happen before. (I’ve been sewing for 15 years and I’ve owned several different sewing machines.) Please help!
