Thank you for letting us see and listen to the chickens eating the extra garden greens. It is always fun to watch them.

Sprouting garlic is just fine -- leave it alone for the autumn/winter and it will carry on growing in the spring. Not to worry -- don't touch it except to mulch.

Becky loving the adorable chicken content!! Loved seeing them peck away at that kale in the sunshine, making their cute chicken noises- the best! ❤

My cousin’s bridesmaids carried cabbages as bouquets at her wedding! They were beautiful.

Becky, I understand you are putting your beds to bed, but another option would be to plant some green manure crops (mustard greens, winter salads, etc). They will enrich your beds (by both nourishing the soil as they grow and by forking them in come early spring) and you will get fresh food for your chickens too!
For your garlic beds, spread a thick layer of straw or much and they should be fine.

We just planted our Garlic and put a good 5 inches of shredded leaves/ grass clippings over them. We have never used weed fabric. We do let our chickens into our garden beds from late fall til early spring. We built a garden bed just for our chickens. It's just a in ground bed we amended with compost and planted beans, lettuce, mustard greens, kale and a few cherry tomatoes. The chickens can reach there heads in through the wire fence and eat what they want. We also grow Jerusalem Artichokes and the girls love jumping to eat the leaves as well as dig up some of the tubers to eat. Another plant we planted this year is Amaranth. We picked all the massive seed heads and have them drying indoors and some of the grain will go to the chickens.

Hi Becky, hi friends! I enjoyed this garden! Until I have my own garden, I'm living vicariously through yours! Thanks for sharing Becky!

I think someone in the last video had the best idea. Put the smallest pot of peppers on your windowsill and seeing it will remind you to water it and other two that you could leave in the grow room

Pps: an idea for the space where the strawberries currently are: would be an amazing space dedicated to your sons playtime. When he’s older he’ll love kicking around a soccer ball there or playing catch, you could even put a swing set there or a mini playground, or build a play house for him or even a tree house of sorts. Since it’s enclosed it will be nice and safe and so close to the house, you won’t regret it!

Becky - if you let the zucchini get huge at the end of the growing season, you do not have to refrigerate them. They keep very well in the basement with your potatoes and onions. The skin gets very hard and they save like a winter squash! That way you can cut them open and give them to the chickens well into the winter months

I used to grow tabasco peppers and made dry hot peppers. My husbands name is Russ, so we called them R&B Peppers. Made great gifts.

I just wanted to share that I have learned so much from you. I loved the pumpkin video. I took my kids to a pumpkin patch and was able to teach them about female vs. male flowers! And we even picked and pollinated just like you did! Thanks so much, Friend! ❤

My neighbor had a eucalyptus tree and they planted it beside their pool because they thought it would be pretty and it grew into a massive tree I was thinking the raise beds would not be a good place but as you look around your property remember they could get big

For beginner gardeners I found Insecticidal soap and water works wonders to get of aphids, lacebugs, mealybugs, mites, leaf hoppers, scale insects, spider mites, thrips and whiteflies. It will kill soft-bodied lacebug nymphs (an immature life stage) but it won't damage their hard eggs. I spray both top and bottom of the leaves 3 days in a row and have no problems later. It may be didn't in your area so just keep an eye if they come back.

I have seen some YouTubers plant a small garden specifically for their chickens- greens mainly, but I am sure you could plant whatever you wanted. 😊

Hi Becky! Last year, my garlic sprouted and grew about 2 inches, even having put an inch of straw on it when it was planted. The sprouts turned a little brown when it got really cold, but come spring, they greened back up and grew. It was an awesome harvest as well; great big heads. I was so glad.😊
