My mom uses "Tambaloslos" as an insult. I always thought it meant like a "loser" or something. Didn't know THIS is the lore behind the word

its actually terrifying that folklore like this has to be created. folklore and myths are usually created as a way to warn people about certain things, usually directed towards kids as they need to learn things as they mature. but some folklore, like these, are just depressing.

As a Filipino, I’m not even surprised that this is one of our folklore guys. Hell, we even have a mythical creature that drinks babies out of their own wombs! They appear as regular old people or something during the day, but separate from their bottom half at night. It is said that to keep them away you have to sprinkle salt or garlic or whatever it was on all openings, even leaks in the roof. Messed up, right? They’re called the Manananggal, which roughly translates to someone who harvests/takes.
