Interesting period of time. It answers some of the questions about the contents of the New Testament. The Septuagint, the book of Enoch and likely the book of Daniel were written in that era. The Jews coming back from Babylon and having learned their lesson became very Torah observant and yet were still greatly persecuted by the Greeks and Romans. When their kingdom was not restored to them though they were back in their land and obeying Torah a strain of Jewish thought began embracing apocalyptic visions of the future restoration. The book of Enoch is an example of this with its coming of the son of man prophecies, containing references of angels, demons, hell and judgement. The NT writers were well aware of the book of Enoch and even quote it. Jesus was one of many apocalyptic preachers warning of the coming judgement. Ultimately Jerusalem was destroyed but it was not the culmination and the restoration of the Davidic Kingdom.

The testament is written in Greek because of the septuagint, translated for Ptolemy II Philadelphus the Greek pharaoh.

The Messiah was supposed to be a king for Israel, which at the time of his life was under Roman rule.

They wanted to make him King, but he ran away and abandoned them.
