In Terraria you always spawn with a pickaxe, axe, and shortsword so that the player can defend themselves and gather materials. But what if you spawned in with nothing? Could you progress? In today's video we're going to find out, hope you enjoy!

I tried this a while back. Remember how you grabbed some "useless cobwebs" at the start? In my run, I got a single cobweb, placed it on a pot to break the pot, ran into the web to recollect it, rinse and repeat. Just replaced that annoying torch part.

My guy planning how to beat Moonlord with nothing to his name, and actually goes ahead and does that
What an absolute legend

This is a lot easier actually because you can break pots with anything you can place, which includes coins. Just get the guide to kill a few slimes and you can break pots. Now, you cannot pick the coins back up but you can just keep doing it until you get torches so that you can break more pots until you either find a chest with wood or bombs or break a pot with bombs in it.

Just the simple classification of the bomb as a "multitool" is hilarious.

I’m surprised no one mentioned the cactus pickaxe. You could get it with a few bombs and nothing else.

Honestly doing it this feels way more rewarding and it add a whole new period of progress to the game. This is actually really interesting

Could be a cool speedrun. The "It's A start" speedrun category where the goal is to get to your starter tools (of any material type) as fast as you can. verry RNG heavy ofcourse but there might be some interesting tactics and overall thinking required with the usage of bombs for example.

Guess beforehand: You find a weapon in a surface chest, then break pots to get bombs, blow up a tree or two, then proceed as usual
Afterwards edit: Not exactly, but about right.

I actually remember doing this challenge myself before! And I'd highly recommend doing it yourself just because it does offer a pretty unique although slightly grindy and pretty rng beginning to the game

I remember finding 120 wood in chests and being like: "I gotta build these houses VERY carefully".
Proceeds to completely mess up not even building a single house

Idk if it's just because I've been binge-watching older videos but the editing and quality look especially great on this one!

This is how I start all my runs. Exploring the world without anything, then torches, rope, wooden tools and finally a pickaxe. This progression really hits the metroidvania feels and I love it.

I remember my first time playing, I saw the trashcan slot and as a test I put items in it that I didnt care about and figured out really quick that it was a delete slot. But then later I had obtained a chest and I excitedly shift-clicked stuff into there, out of habit from playing minecraft. But this was in a version of 1.3 where shift-clicking items immediately sent them to the trash slot. I remember being horrified when I finally realized what I had done, I had deleted some precious ores that I just mined. I also remember feeling relief that I didnt delete my tools because if I had, I would have become softlocked like in this video.

For that reason, the idea has stuck with me to this day that 1.) the guide should always respawn first thing in the morning, regardless of if he has a house or not, being the only NPC that can do this, and 2.) if you have no tools in your inventory, the guide should give you copper tools for free when you try to talk to him. This would effectively make it impossible to be softlocked in any world like this.

This actually becomes quite interesting when attempting a "no O" or "no E" run, since you'd have to throw the starting tools away. I tried this a while back for "no O", and I had used Waterleaf Seeds to break pots for shurikens, so I could maybe reach dynamite.
Though first I needed shurikens to get the seeds.

This reminds me of terraria skyblock, using slightly obscure mechanics and abysmal drop rates to progress the game lol

I've thought of doing this before, but once you get bombs you can just craft a cactus pick and it becomes a normal playthrough..

Never even considered playing Terraria like this. Only adds a short challenge but I like it!
