i follow carnivore, but allow salt, pepper, and dairy... basically anything from animal. sour cream and cheese can make if so much easier to follow, not to mention a little cream in coffee. I know its not the strictest, but I've been able to follow for almost a year now, so it works for me.

When I did the carnivore diet, I was allowed to use black pepper in addition to salt. Was I maybe doing a different variation?

This diet does actually work. I lost over 80 lbs which I really didn’t care too much. I only weighed myself before I started and after I reached my goal. Losing inches was more important.

My meal plan was:
Breakfast: 3 egg omelette (with 1 tbsp. Of olive oil) & 4 bacon strips
Lunch & Dinner: 3 air fried chicken legs (garlic salt & black pepper seasoning)
Occasional Snacks: pork rinds and sugar free jello
Worked out 5 days a week: 20 minutes (walking and light strength training)
Saturdays only: cheat day (ate whatever I wanted)

I kept it really simple because I’m always busy and this plan was perfect for my busy lifestyle. And honestly, you don’t have to workout that long. 20 minutes was enough for me plus I did a lot of walking during my breaks at work so that helped as well.

Anytime you prioritize protein from whole foods you're doing good for yourself. I try mostly animal foods and fruits/starches with much lower fat thanks to your advice.
