Second method (unchecking the Office files sync in Onedrive settings) solves the problem -and that's great-, but then you need to manually activate Autosave (and provide credentials) everytime you open an Office file that you want to get synchronized in Onedrive.

Signing out of the application (Excel), closing it, restarting the computer, and signing back in again worked for me.

Thanks lady worked like a charm! I will add that you will need to close any Word documents you have open. I did the step while keeping the document open and it kept popping up. Once i closed and reopened it worked just fine.

it worked, i had to log out of outlook on the app separately and then use this method, and also leave your computer shut down for a few mins

Neither solution works. I updated several drivers and now One Drive in Word does not let me sign in. Says Cached credentials have expired. I can't save anything!
