Not to snigger at you for a wee mistake, but you did say that "Germany" and France were treaty bound to keep Poland's Sovereignty, when of course, you meant Great Britain & France. That would be a different Warre entirely!

Seriously how can you stay so calm during the whole song bit. I was dying during the whole double middle finger bit

I get the feeling they made the music video from 7:34 to 9:30, then decided to make an educational context for it.

One note is that the german military wasn’t as motorized as it seems. They also still relied on horses and such more than often noted

Chris, it’s easy to criticize the Germans for not advancing on Dunkirk, but they were exhausted, and the entire Dunkirk perimeter is covered in low lying marshland and canals that were difficult cross and easy for the British to defend. There was no way the armor could advance in this area, and the Germans still had to deal with the other French armies south of the Somme. The German advance on Dunkirk had been stopped before Hitler’s halt order, and the armor redeployed to the south. There’s a book called Dunkirk 1940 that tells the story of Dunkirk from the German perspective, highly recommended.

9:10 Yea, I had a teacher who always pointed out the repeated growing pains of wars due to technology always advancing, but generals and commanders only updating doctrine based on the war before, which could be decades in the past. The Germans in WW2 even almost fell into that trap, but avoided that folly which is why the blitz was so powerful at first.

"There's nothing funny about the German invasion of the western countries of Europe but it's impossible not to be entertained a little bit by this."
Having watched and rewatched the British series " 'Allo 'Allo" several times, there is certainly entertainment to be found.

1:05 yes, it’s „Bewegungskrieg“ and is simply the motorized and armoured continuation of the old Prussian doctrine of a quick strike to decapitate the enemy.

2:47 In german it is Bewegungskrieg = War of Movement. Development started finaly in the 1860s and 1870s.
It stuck during WWI through trench warfare but got than again in further development through new, fast tanks, cars, towed guns planes etc.

It’s always a great day when VTH uploads a new video!

Fun fact: Hitler actually despised the term “Blitzkrieg”. He thought it was a silly name invented by Allied media

12:47, little correction, 70k is the total nr of British civilian deaths during WW2, of which 40K perished during the 7 month period of the "Blitz".

My family’s farm in Kent has a crater (small now) that was from the blitz, and my grandpa who was in the home reserve wrote about it in his diary that was published. He also had German POW’s work on his farm as well after the war. It doesn’t take make space up in his diary but it was an interesting read to say the least 😊

I love MTSI because it reminds me of me and my late best friend in our 20s when we would sit around the fire pit getting increasingly drunk ranting about historical events.
