I once heard a joke that said "Ironically his best artwork was when he painted the walls of his bunker with his blood and brains."

About the non-smoking

In the movie "Downfall" right after his suicide, his officers immediately started smoking in the bunker. Nice little detail.

Another fact in the story of the rejection by the Art Institute was he DID show some talent with buildings and other structures. They recommended he apply to be an architect. However, he didn't have the necessary classes (math, sciences) to be admitted.
Oddly, Stalin was also a film buff. For him it was westerns.
Hitler's doctors were convinced his strict vegetarianism, is what gave him indigestion, and gas, in later life. Sometimes, so severe "Dr." Morell had to administer an opiate. Probably it was all the sweets/cakes he consumed. He was also not a strict teetotaller and would sometimes have a beer with dinner.

About 'Hitler: The Bingewatcher': I've read or heard somewhere that he loved the Charlie Chaplin movie 'The Great Dictator' and saw it 7 times. Which is quite ironic if you ask me.

I like how the Goering ball man is somehow still fatter than the rest.

Actually a friend to my grandma (a Jewish painter, my grandparents are Jewish) and to the family that I met when young told us that he was accepted to the academy that same year Hitler was denied. He used to say “if Hitler was accepted instead of him the world would have got a bad painter in him and a bad shoemaker in me. Instead they got a horrible dictator and a mediocre painter”
I think. Not sure… long time ago…

Your hand covering his armband in the thumbnail is perfect 😂 I don't know if you did that on purpose, but I thought it was clever

So if I want to be the opposite of Hitler

- Hate painting / be very good at painting people empathetically
- No binge-watching movies
- Smoke
- Eat meat
- No sugary stuff
- No farting (eat less broccoli)

Did I miss anything important? 🤔

Just wanted to say that I enjoyed the tour this weekend. If any of you get a chance to take one of them, I'd highly recommend it. If what we just experienced was a first attempt, it only says good things about what's to come.

He could no longer eat meat because of a gas attack during the First World War. This partially destroyed his taste buds and meant that meat simply no longer tasted good. That's why he became a vegetarian. His caretaker Herbert Döhring, who lived with him on the Berghof, said so.

Related to Stalin and Hitler is that Stalin was extremely antisemitic. If Hitler hadn't come to power, then Stalin probably would have gotten the antisemite of the century award.

the pretty famous german comedy movie Feuerzangenbowle, filmed in the early 40's was to be banned pre release because Goebbels didn't want a comedy film. They went to Hitler and got the cancellation cancelled.
It is set in a time pre war and suprisingly (at least the common version) pretty unpolitical and neutral. So despite being filmed during he war, it is still very watchable.

I look forward to Mark Felton's eventual deep dive into point 11.

My theory about the allied bombing of the doll factory is that the factory was secondary target. The primary target, like an ammo or airplane part factory, was called off due to bad weather. So the allies wanting to bomb something might as well bomb a doll factory.

7:50 A lot of people hate people but love animals. This is a common feature amongst pet owners say living in large urban metropolises. And of course you can say that about many folk who owned pets yet lived in and or advocated for racist regimes.

Just wanted to shout out David Seidler, who wrote the King's Speech where they also mention the whole smoking is good for the throat advice George VI received, as he passed away a few days ago. I love watching that film, and I think David got the credit he deserved (an Oscar) for writing an absolutely tremendous film about a very under-discussed affliction.

Roger Meyers Sr, the gentle genius behind Itchy and Scratchy, loved and cared about almost all the peoples of the world. And he, in turn, was beloved by the world, except in 1938 when he was criticized for his controversial cartoon, ‘Nazi Supermen Are Our Superiors.'

Winston Churchill also loved watching Mickey Mouse. He was watching a Mickey Mouse film when he was informed that Mossilini had resigned. He was watching it with Arthur Harris, Chief of Bomber Command; he paused the film, exclaimed with joy, then continued watching.

I just think it’s important to acknowledge that brutal authoritarians still have some “redeeming qualities”. To not show those, we fail to explain why people were willing to follow them in the first place. That dichotomy is important to address.
They’re all horrible people, but still people.
