Let's Build A Destroyed Panther Tank Diorama! (Das Werk, 1/35)

My friends, the Panther is one of the most famous tanks from WW2. Although there are countless ways we can paint them and present the model in various environments, sometimes the easiest way to make it look different is to present it in an unusual way... for example - upside down!

Disclaimer: I have a good relationship with a handful of modelling brands and stores, namely VMS, Michigan Toy Soldier Company, and AK-Interactive. As such, I'm happy to use their products/services, and show them in my work. In return, they support my efforts in this hobby, although my hands are not bound nor am I obligated to push one brand or the other. This was one of the founding ideas of the channel and I will always stand by this.

So sorry to hear about the loss of your grandfather. Your comments about him and the future are so true. Thank you for the honesty.

My condolences. My grandpa was a bit older (born 1927) and was a teenage partisan fighter in WW2, got unscathed through all the battlefields of ex Yugoslavia. His stories were so eerie and strong... He died at 89 and I cannot forgive myself not filming / recording / writing down his wartime experiences. So yeah, you ppl that still have the honor to listen to your gramps, be proactive and at the very least talk with the old folks.

Condolences on your loss. Losing a grandparent is tough and the older you get the more you miss their wisdom and stories. Great work as usual!

Martin, my condolences to your family and you. You are a good steward of history. Your having shared your grandfather's experiences keeps him a big part of that history.

I’m very sorry for your loss, I just lost my own grandfather early in October. I remember all the story’s he told me about his life and his time in the navy. He served as an electrician on the U.S.S Vulcan, his ship was apart of the failed bay of pigs invasion into Cuba. He told me the story of being hunkered down in the lower decks, and hearing all the big battleship guns firing. He said that he thought we were going to war. He made it out of that, and when he got back home he wasted no time and went and married my Grandma. It’s a shame most people don’t get to spend a lot of time around their grandparents. There’s plenty of story’s and life lessons that they want to share, if you haven’t talked to your grandparents in awhile, and there still alive. Give them a call, ask them to tell you a story. Who knows you might learn something, or just have a good laugh.

My condolences to you. He was a WWII veteran, a B-24 bombardier in the US Army Air Corps, and passed over 30 years ago. Although he missed seeing us grandkids grow up, I'm certain your grandfather watched your life, talents, and success with pride. Cherish your memories of him.

My grandfather was a LT in the Marines when he landed on Iwo Jima. He was shot but lived. I only spoke with him about it once while he was in the hospital before he passed. I wish I had written down questions, I wish I had recorded it... If you have a relative ask them about WW2, Korea, ect.. I wasn't as prepared as I wanted.. but at least I did get to hear his story.
I'm sorry you lost your grandfather but be happy you knew him.
Like NS says.. it is our duty to hear and relay their story.

So sorry to hear of your loss. My grandpa died in 1963. I was 10 years old. He was in WW1 AEF 32nd Division 107th Engineers. I used to love listening to his stories from that conflict and he was very willing to tell me. He never spoke about the Battles except to say, "This area was hard to take" or tell me about the mud in the trenches where he slept sitting in his helmet. I have his helmet, gas mask, leggings and overseas cap along with many picture postcards and many photos including German propaganda photos. My treasure is a piece of Quentin Roosevelt's plane where my Grandpa built a fence around his grave. Thanks for listening.

What a great idea for a diorama, can’t wait to see the results. And very sorry to hear about your grandfather, as you say it’s not only family but also links to the past that affects everybody eventually.

Sorry about your grandfather. My grandma was from a part of Germany which is now Poland. First she feared the Germans, then she feared the Russians. It’s impossible to put a value on their experiences.
Sometimes what I miss about your dioramas, no matter the skill and expertise shown, is the scale and awe that comes with history. That people are witnessing, will always witness and have always witnessed things larger than them.
The tank in the lake captured it, I think. A sort of melancholy of bygone history, something that happened no matter if you wanted it to or not.
Nonetheless, thank you as always for your amazing work and inspiration to us all

Condolences, for your grandfather. Very timely remarks. My father was a WWII veteran. Born in 1921. I learned from a first person's perspective about the horrors of that time. I remember when I built models back in the 60's, I could ask him if I got something right on a Sherman tank. He was a commander of one. They were truly outstanding people. I miss him, even today.

Condolences about your grandpa. I also recently lost my dad, who was born in 1932. It's crazy to think that his stories died with him. Obviously, not the ones we remember, but all of the untold and forgotten ones. I love that you brought this up, and that it's important that we do our part to honor their memories, what they and those before had to go through. Best wishes, mah friend.

i know, its so sad that in no longer than 10 years or so, we wont have any living veterans. As such, is our duty to remember them. Sorry for your loss. Great video execution man, as always,

Sorry for your loss. My grandad passed away two years ago. He was born in 38 or 39. It's surreal to think that most of the people from then are passing on. I agree with you. It's important we keep their messages alive.
