Steller's Sea Lions are HUGE, about the size of a full-grown Walrus and males hold their heads almost 6 feet off the ground. Even underwater, Sea Lions are quite nimble as they use their front flippers to swim whereas all seals use their hind flippers. This would be a great matchup but my money is on the Steller's Sea Lion. Another fact about Steller's Sea Lions is that they don't bark like California Sea Lions, they give a bellowing roar.

Without watching I would guess the sea lion is capable of more strength, however the leopard seal is hands down more formidable

When I was a kid and learned about Leopard Seals I remember that I had nightmares of running into them when I was for some reason doing artic scientific research projects. (I was a kid, so that's odd but I watched a lot of Steve Erwin and Jeff Corwin)

I can’t quite remember but I think I remember hearing that the maximum size for a leopard seal is around 1000 and possibly even 1200 lbs Which even if true is still less then Half the weight of the male steller sea lion. So my money is definitely on the Sea Lion especially since besides being much bigger they’re also more aggressive and combative.

Too bad we don't know bite strength of either animal. The leopard seal seems to have better teeth and the edge on athleticism. Raw size doesn't automatically mean victory. I'm betting it might be a draw, or could go either way.

There is hardly ever a mistake made during the narrating of these videos. However, a BIG one was made here at 07:46. While discussing Leopard Seal populations, the narrator says: "Groups of up to 100 people have been seen". I didn't know seals were people 🤣🤣🤣

Sea lions still use their hind flippers for walking and could simply trample the leopard seal, which, like all true seals, get around on land similar to a slug or a caterpillar so just in terms of mobility there's no contest. It could even be argued the advantage the leopard seal would have in the water wouldn't be much better.

"seals vs sea lions" I think that just falaciously puts all seals in the same boat. Leopard seals are far superior to ask seals in most categories without contrast. The are not like grey, harbor, not monk seals.
Then you distinguish the sea lions much more.
(Edit). You can't even keep leotard seals in captivity unlike Any of their relatives.

Some of the pictures are Harbor seal. Leopard seal doesn't even attack and eat adult Antarctic Fur Seals, especially adult males. There's no way a leopard seal will win a Steller Sea lion, especially it's much larger than the Antarctic fur seal. A more interesting fight will be between leopard seal and the male Australian/ New Zealand/ South American Sea Lions. They are much closer to leopard seals size, and they might have a higher chance of running into each other as they live in the southern hemisphere.
