The Sea Leopard's Deadly Hunt in the Antarctic Ocean

With the killer whale, the sea leopard is the only great predator of the Antarctic Ocean. Each year, at the end of the austral summer, he joins the lands of Graham to come and hunt the penguins gathered in large numbers to raise their young.
He delivers a murderous and spectacular hunt to the Gentoo and Chinstrap penguins who are forced to try to thwart his vigilance to go to feed.
Some of them are sacrificed to the predator each time a group goes to the water.

I used to be a marine mammal trainer back in the 80's and I trained 3 leopard seals. This doco is wonderful and really supports all the knowledge I discovered about these magnificent animals iduring those times. Leopard seals also have a soft side too and a bit of a sense of humour. Thank you for the video, it brought back some lovely memories.

19:30 "Little is known of the social life of leaopard seals." yes, it is well known: They spend most of their time hunting and basking on ice caps alone, even though several seals can be found on the same 3 to 5 miles of coastal territory and occasionally cross path under water (especially when hunting the same pods and colonies) or even share the same ice platform. Neighbouring seals are either mates, or siblings. When birthing season approaches, the females reamin aloof and turn overly aggressive towards males, liable to eat newborns and calves. They don't just hunt penguins. A member of my kayak club visited antartica and while walking on ice by open water, a leopard seal jumped out and grabbed his leg trying to pull him into the water. Fortunately two friends nearby grabbed him and after a serious tug of war pulled him to safety. It took a long time to heal from the wound.
