Goes to show how poorly the budget management is done in the US, most likely intentionally

The Korean metro line is so so so convenient. I've been here for months but I'm still always excited to take the subway anywhere lol

One thing I found amazing when I last went to Korea was how all phones (which I had access to) had a built in app kind of like Google maps for the subway. Not only does every train have Wi-Fi access, it tracks which station you're at and tells you when you arrive 🤯

As someone who moved from the U.S. to Korea (work visa). You captured a perfect representation of how shocked I was to see how much better transportation can be if managed properly.

Really great content. Keep up the good work.

I am currently in Seoul and trust me when I say, it's super easy. I learnt jow to use the subway by myself on day 2 of being here because the directions are really easy. And it's safe and really clean.

That’s crazy too because Seoul has a million more people than New York

When the country actually cares about their citizens

My dad describes this mentality using invoicing. He told me, "People struggle to fathom the long-term and compare money over time. Often I'll tell people, 'I want $200 an hour and it'll take one week, ' and they balk, so I say, 'Ok no problem. I'll take $125 an hour and it'll be two weeks, ' and they thank me for being reasonable. They're paying me more money, and I'm still doing the same work, but they see the illusion of me nearly halving my fees, and I'm still only doing one week's worth of work."

And he's right. The divisions in charge of stuff like PT in cities like NYC look at a proposal that says an entire subway line can be rehauled in two years for some billions, and they refuse it based on cost. But they spend so much money a year on maintaining and spot fixing, and that cost will continue to increase and bloat as time goes on, with inflation and the increasing demand for repairs.

So really, it would be cheaper to redo it now, but they get stuck on that big number and don't take the time and other factors into consideration. This mindset plagues our entire society.

I’ve had the pleasure of utilizing the subway/train systems in NYC, Berlin, and Seoul. Seoul is hands down the pinnacle of what public transportation should be. That is something I always mention when talking about Korea. Just how amazed I was at how easy it was to get around as a foreigner on the subways.

Korean subway is one of the reason why I fell in love with Seoul. Their public transportation is very tourist friendly. I've never feel that safe when traveling even in my own country.😂

After seeing this I am distraught at how fucking pathetic United States transportation is

I lived in Korea for 7 years (2014~2021) and one thing I miss the most is the ease of transportation and especially bus / metro lines in Seoul. You can get across the city to wherever you want as long as you know how to navigate your way through.

Almost all Soeul rail networks are properly integrated with each other, and most of them have like convenient stores on the platform itself. I was blown away by how great their rail transportation are, even better than Tokyo!

You forgot about the high crime in nyc subway vs Korea. I’ve lived in both cities and that subway is pretty awesome.
