Russia has defaulted on its foreign debt for the first time since 1918. The Kremlin says it has the means and the will to pay, but its money is blocked by western sanctions. Palki Sharma Upadhyay brings you a report.

Russia is right on this one. A default means that you owe money that you do not have. Russia has plenty of money but is being prevented from using it to service debt. Russia has not defaulted. Anyone who understands how the banking system works would never say that it has defaulted.
