I downloaded/installed the latest "Studio Driver" for the graphics card and the error message disappeared.

Thank you for showing me that this issue was caused by a different different issue. Two of my systems started doing this recently. I appreciate saving the "how to" update drivers for a different video out of respect for the subject since not everyone has the same hardware.

Whenever you close Davinci Resolve and restart it, you reset the GPU memory usage. This error seem to occur due to a bug in Resolve's memory managment not alwayus freeing correctly the GPU memory. Restarting Resolve is likely why it worked for you, not because you updated your drivers. Studio drivers are recomended for Davinci Resolve though.

weird, i have the same problem (12gbVRAM) but task manager dont show any usage of memory, barely like 10% of total memory

FYI, not a computer guy but had the same issue. Went and deleted some other projects I had finished or had as duplicates, it took care of it. Seems like project manager keeps all files/edits for all projects in one spot, once full it needs emptied I guess?

im having the same problem, but my gpu is only using 3.5 gb and is not full at all, and my vram is 16 gb while my actual ram is 32gb, and im using a amd card, the rx 6800.

I had the same issue and for me deleting project did the job. I think I tried to use Da Vinci Resolve Studio features and something crashed because my GPU tried to process all options that were turned on. If you have similar issue try to open other project and if it works then it is possible that you unfortunately have to start crashed project from scratch.

I kept getting issues with GPU full, and I updated drivers, changed resolutions, removed my chapters, dissolved compound clips, and none of that worked. I then backtracked & DELETED ONE PICTURE I'd earlier downloaded and added to my timeline, and I was then able to render in 4k with zero issues!!! That's all it was causing the issue!

Are games running slower on studio drivers?

Personally, that trick didn't work for me.
I had to put a hackintosh. For mac os, the drivers are written by apple developers or something... and the video memory is managed differently.
