Why does Alastor smile all the time in Hazbin Hotel?

Did you notice this in Hazbin Hotel?

Alastor is well known for his iconic smile. But why does he smile all the time?

Well there’s two reasons. Firstly as alastor states himself, It inspires your friends, keeps your enemies guessing, and ensures no matter what comes your way, you're the one in control.

The second reason is much darker. When alastor is in his demonic form, we can see that his mouth is stitched. We see this during the pilot. Again in episode 5 when he battles the loan sharks. And once more during episode 7 when he makes his deal with charlie. He literally can’t stop smiling because of these stitches.

My question is did alastor stitch his mouth himself, or did someone else do it? Was it before or after he died and went to hell? We’ll likely find out in season 2.

Alastor smiles all the time due to personal preference, but if he can stop smiling whenever he wants, according to vivziepop, if Alastor will find someone he really hates, he would stop smiling and kill that person without thinking too much about it.

Viv has already confirmed that he smiles of his own accord. Not saying things can't have changed, but it's at least highly unlikely.

I think when he made the deal with Charlie the stitches were keeping his face together and stopping him from ripping his face apart from how hard he smiled

My belief is that Alastor's smile is permanently plastered onto his demon form because it was a belief deeply ingrained into him before he died, and that when we see him generate stitches is actually when he becomes so ecstatic about the situation that he literally is breaking into a grin.

But that's not how stitches work, they keep things closed, not open.

Its more likely that the stitches keep him smile from getting too big.

It could possibly be like like his shadows smile if he didn't have those.

(Edit or well add-on) I was just pulling from how I got my stitches on my face, the cut closed.

Also when I look at Al's face it looks like the stitches are holding his mouth closed and only on his lips and does not connect anywhere else on him to hold the smile.

I’m pretty sure Viv stated Alastor has the free will to smile himself, he mostly does it for the first reason, the second one I would guess may be that he can’t speak of his deal so that’s why his mouth is stitched?

If you look at each frame he occasionally makes a different face for just a split second

Whats funny is that the stitching doesn't keep his mouth smiling. Its keeping it shut. So to force smile it needs to be the other way around with no connections from side to side holding the lips back.

Alaster is smiling on his own with the stitching only holding his jaw closed.
