My 1 year surfing progression (GoPro)
Показать описание
Here is my surfing progression video! The first video was recorded in May 2019 and the videos roll until June 2020.
My story: I took a lesson back in 2015 with some friends and did catch waves and stood up on the board in that lesson. I was chuffed. I loved it and always thought I should give it a proper go but neither had I the time nor the money to do so.
I moved to Cornwall, UK, in 2016 and I was hearing about surfing left, right and centre. I thought I had to make the most of this opportunity but again, money and time was an issue. I kept it in the back of my mind until 2018 when I met 2 surfer girls in different context and from talking about it they inspired me to get into it! I went for a surf once, rented a board with friends and it was just like the first time. I had so much fun in the white water.
I just needed this to launch me into getting my own board. That was the only way I could really start as I quickly figured renting a board every week or so would soon cost me a fortune. So I started to save up some money for it, but my amazing friends and family decided to surprise me for my 25th birthday and created a pot for me to buy my first surfboard. I was beyond happy, I think I even cried because I couldn't believe it. I'm so grateful to have all those amazing people in my life.
It took me time to find the right board though. I had to wait January 2019 to finally find the board. I looked on Facebook groups for months on end without finding anything like what I wanted. Boards were to short, too expensive, not in the right conditions etc... So I decided to post a message in a surfing girls Facebook group, and one of them had the perfect board for me. I couldn't believe it could be that easy! I was so excited to finally get a board so I drove quite a bit to get there and when I saw it it was perfect, the size was good and it was in great condition.
By then it was winter and I only had a summer wetsuit, so I had to find a winter wetsuit (getting into surfing isn't cheap !!) so I started surfing in March!
The first video was recorded during a surfing weekend I participated in with Women and Waves in Newquay, UK. Shortly after that I decided to get a Go Pro camera so I could see what I was doing and see what I could improve on. It really helped me loads to spot the mistakes and to see some progression.
Anyway, if you've watched the video until the end and read through this, thank you and well done !
Please, leave a comment if you're just starting and have any questions or if you are a bit further down the line and have some tips to give :)
