after so much failure of trying to stand up, when you finally do it and ride your first wave even if its a small one, the smile on your face, the adrenaline rush, the feeling of movement over water damn you are hooked for life...

"Kooks are down there, brother" - whether that was a real interaction or a set up for this film, it's amazing how quickly people forget where they started. I've never in my life called someone a kook, just because they are trying to learn something new. I only call myself one, when I miss a section :)

only the most insecure kooks call beginners kooks.

The best moment you get besides standing up for the first time on a wave (to me, anyway) is the carving. It feels like the board has a blade attached to it and you are running that blade through soft butter. Feelsgoodfam

I think not enough nose dives were depicted in this video for it to be an accurate representation of beginner surfing

When I was really young me and my friend took boards out and had no idea what we were doing so we paddled out to an older surfer to ask for help but he was so rude and just ignored us. Don’t be that guy.

I’ve started to learn surfing 4 weeks ago. I totally understand how he feel. I still think this may not be my thing sometimes… But I keep doing cause I feel great when I catch a wave. Hope I can enjoy more and be happy.

For anyone reading this that’s new to surfing- if you’re at the point where you popping up, but you keep falling down, always look to where you want to go. Resist the urge to look at the position of your feet on your board when you pop up. Keep your eyes trained on where you want to go and trust that your body will handle the rest.

If you look down, you go down.

1:06 "Kooks are down there" says the kook that paddles like a kook. Funny video, though. :-)

This was a fun video to watch. This is what life is about. Getting out side, trying something new, chasing dreams, and having fun. And being part Samoan, gotta love the ocean and surf.

Did you secretly attach a camera to me for the last month!? I just moved to LA, picked up that exact blue waveform surfboard, and learned to catch waves in Huntington Beach.
This is too accurate, except for the surfer lady giving me tips, where was she?

I'd love to see more of these. It really makes you appreciate where you've come from and really humbles anyone wherever they may be in their sport.

It's rather ironic how skateboarders go through the exact same phases. Particularly giving up in frustration when learning a new move, but you never stop to think about hopping back on your board.
