A snake that size will eat 4 or 5 eggs at one time.

Normally I don't mind rat snakes or chicken snakes or corn snakes around the farm because they do eat venomous snakes, mice and rats from time to time.

But once they get in the chicken coop and they realize that's where the food is it's time to get rid of them

That looks like my resident black snake. That snake scared the life out of me when i first seen him, but I am glad he or she is around. I haven't seen any rodents.

She’s acting like the snake is a cute little puppy that did something naughty. Heck no, I’d be freaking out.

Texas Black Rat Snake. He's not dangerous, but he can kill your chickens. We had 2 chickens killed by one, they can't actually eat them, but they try and fail. The best thing to do is remove it, they are not venomous, and are good for the woods ecosystem. Relocate him to the woods. Don't kill him.

Usually, if I see a black snake, I will not kill it because I know they keep away the venomous snakes. I have some woods next to my house and if I see one around the house, I usually will relocate it to the woods. However, I'm thinking about getting some chickens again. Does anybody know if having a feral cat around will keep away snakes from a chicken coop?

I remember when I was a kid, a 3 inch diameter of a cobra came to our house.

We don't have any choice but to kill it. Its so aggresive and trying to attack us. My dad get a long stick, tie a small cloth to the end, pour diesel on it and lit it. When the fire was close to the cobras head, it bit the fire and never let it go until its head is almost roasted.

This is why you snake proof your coop with bird wire

Reinforce your fence to protect the chickens, but definitely keep the Kingsnake. There are a lot worse things that can threaten your chickens that that type of snake, but that snake will keep them away.

How did the snake possibly enter the enclosure given that the hole sizes are really small?
