I was a huge Detroit Red Wings fan that period and I was always puzzled by the choice of this goal since they shouldn't have gotten to Game 7 to begin with and they didn't even win that year. I've heard lots of tortured explanations about this so I was glad that Yzerman felt the same way:


"Whenever I bump into people in the street or in Detroit or around they always bring up, "Oh that great goal, great goal, " and for me it's kinda anticlimactic because we didn't win that year, you know. So I don't really think much about that goal. I have much better memories of 97, 98, 02."
