The first point on strength to weight ratio is one of the most important factors that most instructional videos on pull ups don’t discuss. Thanks!

You got the curve at the end giving good advice. At the beginning I thought no way… of course getting better at rows etc helps the pullup. But specifity first. What helps the pullup most is doing pullup movements even as absolute beginner (with bands or using negatives)

Strength to weight ratio is definitely a thing for me. I restarted working out in december with the goal of loosing weight. That goal wasn't motivating enough though since truthfully that has just been an ongoing goal for 30 years now. So I changed my goal to doing a pull up. Yep, just being able to do one would be a good triumph for me. 😅 It has motivated me because it feels like building up to an achievement with loosing the weight thrown in (because doing a pull up with 25kg extra around my hips isnt going to happen) psychological this has made a difference for me. It makes weightloss slow since I'm trying to build strength as well, but it feels so much better.

Great video Sarah. My top-tip would be Versa Gripps or similar if grip is a limiting factor; the addition of these was a game changer for my form/stability and overall progression.

My goal is 15 pull ups for 2024, currently stuck on 12... loved the fact you mentioned the weight to strength factor, for me this has been the most important factor as it takes me a week to drop a kg if im competing for max pullup reps but months to put on a kg of muscle.

Thank you so much for your support for others to progress with their fitness journey. Have you ever tried pull ups but wrapping your wrist straps around the bar. That way you can go more to failure especially if you don't have the grip strength to stay on the bar.

My current pull up goal is 3x8-10 reps !! I can do about 7 pull ups for 1 set but I have a hormonal imbalance causing extreme fatigue (mentally and physically) so it takes me a bit more time to incorporate strength goals, but I still do what I can 5 days a week :))
