A lot of people lack the ankle and hip flexibility to perform Olympic style barbell squats

That is why I do front squat's instead of back squat's.

I've been taking Tom's advice and it's been a game changer so far. I couldnt just fix my squat under the barbell, ....so I'm relearning my squat mechanics using TRX bands and a rubber wedge to put under my heels. Lee haney likes to use quad extensions in the beginning of leg training to warm up the knees and the prime mover quads so I do that too....

Relearning the squat isn't easy but it's worth it's weight in gold.

This is so true. I had a knee injury almost leading to a surgery and had to stop squatting. I switched to a high bar, "proper" squat, as Tom says, and now my knee pain is almost gone. I don't have a problem squatting anymore because of it

I've been doing exactly what he teaches since his videos became viral, I used to hate squats, now I can't wait to do a leg day, the pump, the strength, and the healthy sore quads are a game changer

yup I always used his advice before there was information on the internet and before social media given me the best results for legs from reading Tom's stuff one is yes straight up and 2 is look up not down when you squat everyone looks down like Tom once said you look where you want to go when squat to keep your form balanced you look up you stay up and go up you look down body gose down more results in lower back pain and falling forward cause you looking at the ground or down always look where you want to go remember that

I’ve had patella tendinitis (jumpers knee) since I was a kid. Figured it out when I tried to play catcher in little league. But it didn’t become a problem until football and weight training in high school.
Still squatted 320 my first time every stepping into a squat rack in the 9th grade and got up to 400 before I just couldn’t do it anymore. Some people just have bad knees.

Says the torso should be 85-86°, not 45.

<shows clip of him squatting at 45-70°>

I love Tom Platz but the back angle depends on a lot of things like limb length and whether you're doing a High Bar Squat or a Low Bar Squat

Squat you get your chest up ass down, head up looking at the stars and GET BELOW PARALLEL

I’m thankful I relearned leg training to the correct methods

Its also trying to build the flexibility needed to proform a proper squat as well.
Most people today in the west tend to have really poor hip and ankle mobility, making it very difficult to break parrel in a squatting motion.

You need tons of ankle dorsiflexion for a squat with an almost upright torso.
Platz got that but most don't.
