Mechanic Hack - When there is no fluid being leaked out everywhere, this is how you test if a master cylinder is bypassing the seal back Into the reservoir and confirm if your clutch slave cylinder is not the problem. This problem is quite common with hydraulic systems. in this video i show you one way to diagnose a leaking clutch master cylinder with basic hand tools.

you've got bigger problems than your clutch master cylinder mate. Your driver seat, steering column etc. are all on the wrong side of the car. Good luck fixing that

What I experienced was when I push the clutch pedal to the floor, the application force is fine, but if you wait around 5-10 seconds and lift the pedal slightly, the pedal pressure turns to water and there is practically no pedal feel at all. That was my clutch master leaking fluid back into the reservoir or as this good man said, bypassing.
Hydraulics are a pain if you don't keep up with routine maintenance. Bleed your fluids yearly if possible.

that clamp doesn't have near the force to stop the fluid. its a good idea. I bought a short piece of hard brake line welded one end shut and screw the other end into your master cylinder. then if you can still push the pedal down something isn't right

I have to do the same test. Levels are good but when the engine is warm and I need to go in rear gear for maneuver the gears don’t get in at all and I have to wait until I’m lucky to fit any gear. I thought it could be the slave cylinder but after watching your video I probably should replace both.

Man I have to check the same way. I can't shift into reverse when hot. Replaced clutch and it was good for a year and half. Changed the slave twice. Seemed to help for few weeks....

Are you putting the brake clamp on the hose between the clutch master cylinder and the clutch slave cylinder?
Thanks

Easier way is have someone put their foot on the clutch as you watch the slave cylinder bleed nipple slightly cracked open.
The fluid should shoot out, if it slowly comes out or dribbles out your master cylinder is toast .

Hello. I have just bought a Citroen C3 MK2 Diesel BlueHdi (99ps), 5 speed manual, 2016 model, with 105.000km on the clock.

After driving it, I've realized that the clutch was very stiff and it was hard to press it and it equally pushed my foot back, when releasing the clutch (Note that I am a 6ft., over 200pounds person, so I am not short of strength).

I decided to change the whole clutch set with the LUK one, valvolines, as well the clucth pump (I was told by the mechanic that LUK is the same brand that the brand's dealership put in this car). During the first day the clutch was quite lighter.; not buttery soft, yet quite lighter. Now the next day, the clucth became almost as hard to push as it was before changing the clutch set.

Is there a way to make it buttery light/soft without spending a fortune? It has already started creating pain to the bottom of my foot, with which I operate the clutch. I find it unreal for any car to have such a stiff clutch. Thank you in advance for your support. Vassilis

Hi, did you have a soft rubber line from your master clutch cylinder? I have a hard line. I don't think that test will work for me
