Watching this while my car is in shop, these symptoms ... geee ... these are so familiar issues on my car, mechanic told me by phone it is turbo gone bad and this awesome video confirms it! Great work by troubleshooting this bad turbo.

I sometimes get a puff of smoke on start ups, it only last a second then goes away. I’ve checked compression and leak down tests on engine and passes them. Only thing i haven’t checked is my turbo. Great video.

“Slower acceleration” - love running an engine dead cold.

You shouldn't be using steel pliers to check movement of the turbo compressor wheel as every small scuff will change the balance of the turbo. Balancing the turbo requires specialist machinery. Cloth on the tips or use your fingers.

Thank you, I was pretty sure that my turbo is on its last legs, this near enough confirms it, not bad for 250, 000 miles

Very helpful. Mine was making a sound like 1:21. I took it to the mechanic and they found the problem exactly as described in this vid.

Great vid. Started for me with puffs of blue smoke on cold start and got worse. Checked intercooler pipe surprise full of oil so a new core on the way 😊

Oily intake can also be a result of bad pcv valve, or a normal thing for vw pd engines due to oil vapors
going back into engine. A OCC can solve that problem.

This is exactly what I'm experiencing with my Ford Fusion, the sound the smoke the lack of pick up of acceleration. And he said it was the turbo

My transit fwd 2.2 diesel suddenly made a whistle and power loss but no smoke, I’ll try your tutorial and wiggle the impeller before ordering new part, I’ve noticed it’s possible to order an internal cartridge off eBay much cheaper than complete turbo, this may save the old girl from the scrap heap cheers

I like this. My Mitsubishi pajero IO had that problem and I didn't know the cause. After seeing this, I'm now on road, no smoke, accelerates well

only noticeable symptom is a little bit of oil on the intake pipe. not as much as on the video tho.
the pipe on the intercooler unplugged a few weeks ago due to overboost i supose, and i haven't checked if there is any build up of oil since then.
i do have a really small ammount of clear smoke uppon startups but it's really unconsistant. some times it does it, some it don't. plus turbo (according to previous owner) has arround 27k km only. so brand new turbo...

Great video, only came here because a neighbours car makes the same noise as 1:26 every time they leave the street and I’m useless with cars but nosy and wanted to know the likely cause 😂

Should there be no oil at all in the air intake /cold part of the turbo? How little is acceptable? When does it require replacement? Thank you 🙏🏼
