Ooooh, i get it now! Divide everything by the a in ax^2 to make the ax^2 = 1x^2 and you can solve for bx by simply halving it. Helps me heaps for my exam, thanks chief!

You should do an example about when to factor, complete the square, or use the quadratic formula.

I just wanted to say thank you I'm in college and this still helps. Great job and thanks again.

@TheDuskMar you use factoring when the equation is factorable, you use completing the square if it's not. you can use quadratic formula either it's factorable or not :)

I bet the one dislike is from a teacher who's students were learning better from you... Nice job btw :) Really helped me out.

@acdp61 Ah, yes.

You know the equation is factorable when in the equation Ax^2 + Bx + C, the factors of AC can add up to B, and then divide out A. e.g. 3x^2 + 5x - 8, 3x8 = 24, and 24 can be written as 1x24, 2x12, 3x8, and 4x6. 3x8 works well, so ((3x-3)(3x+8))/3 = (x-1)(3x+8)

Completing the square might be preferable to the Qformula if A = 1 and B is an even number. Otherwise, just Qformula it.

@selistar1000 multiplying by 1/2 is the same as dividing something by 2. But, dividing something by 1/2 is a completely different thing. In that case, you take the reciprocal of 1/2, which is 2 and multiply by the number given.
- 4 x 1/2 = 2 but 4 divided by 1/2 = 4 x 2 = 8

I really appreciate the time and effort you put into these videos, but I have a suggestion. My teacher loves fractions and he gave me this to solve... 1/3b^2 - 1/2b=2 ... and it is very confusing for me. I am sure others would like to see a problem such as this. Thank you again for the great help, it is much appreciated.

@patrickJMT hii =) i have a question... i don t understand why you say to take one half of the fraction and you multiply... isnt it supposed to divide??? i mean is not only what you say, this is how it is, but I cant really get it.

OMG! I wish I saw this video earlier since my Pre-cal final was yesterday. And there were problems with completing the square :(
