I live in Canada but this still applies. I’ve been attacked by a homeless man (who was drunk/high) before. I’m a petite woman and he was much larger than me. Despite lots of people around me just across the street- no one came to help. I was able to run away and he did not get my phone. It was traumatic to go through. Get these people off the street!

I would’ve been so thankful for a man like this one to come help me that day. Let’s not as a society penalize good people. He did something clearly not many are brave enough to do.

This is very unfortunate, as a NY resident my whole life I can say the justice system has been broken for a long time. Daniel actually grew up in the town I live in now. He was in my Fiancés grade, they graduated the same year, says he was a good kid and doesn’t deserve any of this, he was just doing the right thing.

I’m from New York and like Penny I too have stepped in to defend strangers. I’ve also been on the receiving end of a man verbally harassing me nonstop because I accidentally grazed his leg. We need more heroes like Penny, this is such a sad story to witness, and it makes me embarrassed for New York City.
