Very different. I've always par boil my potatoes. .drain and then steam back in pan. the secret is to get them dry. then I add milk, butter dill sour cream.

i think by boiling the potatos like we all are used to. the potatos lost their taste maybe. by baking them like Akis did they keep their flavor. sometimes simple recipes like this one are the best. I understand why he said the best mash potatoes. I once make mash potatoes with butter, salt and pepper like he did but I baked it insted of cooking it on a skillet and turn out wonderful and tasty 😋

Interesting. I usually use the pink potatoes as they contain less moisture. I boil them peeled, in salted water. When they are soft, I add butter, some milk and use a hand mixer. They do not get chewy at all, but super creamy. When perfectly smooth, I adjust the salt and pepper us add a pinch of baking soda. This will get the mashed potatoes really fluffy.

this seems like a lot of work. i usually just boil them peel them and mash them with a masher and a few nobs of butter! smooth enough :P

Thanks very much for the recipe, a very unusual way to make mashed potatoes. Need to invest in a strong sieve if I try that method, bet they do taste great. My mashed potatoes are ok but generally get lumps so this method will be guaranteed very lovely smooth potatoes. I like the fact that Akis re-heats the potatoes as mine always cool off before serving.

How does mashed potatoes ever get chewy? Anyway, I do like the idea of baking the potatoes instead of boiling them, i may try that sometime. Good video.

this is more puree than mashed potatoes, as far as i know mashed potatoes are not entirely smooth.
a bit time consuming, but worth a try
