Short Answer: The main problem with too much protein, particularly animal protein, is that acidity may hurt the bones and increase the risk of calcium oxalate kidney stones, but this can be obviated by balancing it with organic acids, which have bicarbonate-sparing effects that are alkalinizing. The best index of the organic acid content of foods is the potassium content. This balance can be achieved with 750 to 1500 milligrams of potassium for every 100 grams of protein. This is not specific to whey protein. Other than allergies, none of the claimed harms of whey protein are convincing.

i started eating one pound of red meat 3-4 days per week a month or so ago ( i am severely deficient in zinc) and I can see the difference in my strength even without exercise already. Not to mention that the hair loss i have been battling my entire adulthood is coming to an end on this regime. crazy how quickly it made a difference for me. I try to eat the 8 cups of veggie a day for the magnesium and potassium and I take collagen for the glycine but I really think the average person is not getting enough protein and it could be the underlying cause behind a lot of health issues.

a video about soy lecithin would be interesting considering its in everything. I live in Sweden so we avoid a lot of the bad stuff due to food regulations but soy lecithin is truly inescapable if you want to buy finished products

But what if eGFR is already low? Would you then restrict protein intake or still not a concern?

Chris, is the 750-1500mg of potassium per 100g of protein in addition to your normal potassium requirements of 4700mg?

Whey protein, yogurt, and kefir has been keeping me up overnight to crazy hrs like till noon next day if I have some after ~8pm. I've been looking everywhere for an answer why. I wonder if it has to do with a balance between energy metabolism and methylation like Chris talked about before 🤔? I swear high potassium does the same thing for me. I'm sure its cortisol related since it seems adaptogens help counteract this. For some context, I've been managing multiple widespread infections. Also, it kinda feels okay for me to lose sleep to have close to a normal day's amount of protein.

High protein bodybuilder diets give me jaundice like the subject mentioned, but I suspect my kidneys are effed anyways. Quite annoying becuse I feel better than normal otherwise.

I eat 400 grams of protein daily, up to 500 grams on training days, I feel amazing. Been on carnivore for 2 years now, after 10 years on low carb. Higher the protein, including organs, bone and cartilage, the better I feel, stronger, happier and with more energy.

I always preferred milk and egg proteins instead of whey.
