The game gear was the one handheld that desperately needed a Pocket/Revision, imagine that in 1998 with a smaller size, 4 AA batteries, better and sharper screen + quality. I could totally see that doing well til the GBA, shame we never got something like that and the closest we got was a minor revision from Majesco in 2000-2001

I had a game gear and absolutely loved it! Yes it was less portable, but for me, if I was going anywhere with my family, we were in the car so I used the cigarette lighter power cord, and then when we got to where ever we were going, I used the wall plug adapter. I didn't have bus access so I didn't have to use it in those situations. I did take it on a plane once, but I was fully prepared with 12 high quality battery's, and they were great for the whole flight. I had a big layover, so I plugged it in to an outlet, yes it was a little bit of an inconvenience, but really it was not that big of a deal. The gameboy was way more portable, but I the game gear was so much better that the portability of the gameboy wasn't enough to overcome everything else with the game gear. Just my opinion

With the release of Pokemon, Game Gear basically had no chance to make a comeback.

People discredit the Game Gear way more than it deserves. It held up the longest fight against any Nintendo handheld and its relative failure compared to the Game Boy doesn’t change the fact that it was still more revolutionary for its time. It wasn’t until the DS that a Nintendo handheld would be both backlit and play color games. If Sega didn’t focus on their consoles so much and had more support from third-party developers it would’ve been a lot closer of a fight

I had both between 89-95... There is room for both at the table ...and tbh my Gameboy collected dust once I have the GG.

GG Shinobi is all consuming.

It helps that I received it at a good time.. (the limited so I blue edition... Came with world series baseball and Sonic 2.... As well as a nice carrying case. Rechargable batteries were your friend though)

DMG was probably closer to 20-30 hours. I've even seen tests online where people got upto 50 hours in some limited cases on a DMG Og gameboy.

I actually had a friend who lent me the Sega Game Gear back in the day, I ended up not playing it very much due to the batteries dying on me after just about an hour or so. I just stuck with my Gameboy.

As someone who played both i would still take the game gear the only handheld i enjoyed by Nintendo was the switch and it's only because of the sonic games. Granted I'm not a big gamer and I only really played sonic Mario and the lion king game that came with my game gear. I'll give them the battery life issue but for me as a 1st - 4th grader I never had the attention span to play more than a couple of hours. The one thing I remember though is that the Gameboy only got brought out for trips I never played it at home while I would play the game gear plugged in with the DC adapter which they both had for hours. As a kid I always found Sega better up until the dreamcast crazy taxi was the best between these two at least, I'm talking you you twisted metal 1 and 2. Now if we're talking snes vs Sega Genesis it's snes hands down.

I have a game gear and it's hard to use although the first Gameboy didn't have a color display unlike the sega they introduced it w the Gameboy colour
