Perhaps look into the previous attempts at making the movie where Anne Rice suggested casting Cher as Louis instead of a man. Cher personally spoke to Anne Rice and said it would be a grievous mistake to change the sex of Louis and shy away from the homoerotic nature of the book.
By the time they were making the ‘94 film the director, writer and cinematographer all leaned in to the homoerotic nature that the books were suggesting.

I’ve been saying this since the movie came out. I was 17 the year it was release and I honestly can’t count the number of times I’ve seen it. well in the books it’s much more direct than the did in the movie but i loved that it came across in the ‘94 movie because you know they were probably walking a fine line at the time for what they thought the general public would be okay with.
