If you're suffering from a boil, you'll want to follow the right steps so that it can heal faster than if you don't treat it at all; or even worse, do the wrong things and actually spread the infection.

1. The first thing you should do is get the boil to open and drain naturally on its own. Once the boil begins to drain, your body will actually start to heal and repair itself. You can get the boil to open and drain faster naturally by keeping a warm, moist cloth on the boil for 15 minutes at a time, several times per day.

**WARNING** - Never try to get the boil to open the boil before it's ready. This means no squeezing, popping, poking, etc. It is more likely that infection will spread than any good it will actually do. The only except to this is if a doctor decides to 'lance' the boil, in which he will usually numb the area, use a surgical instrument, and prescribe you antibiotics. - In other words, leave this to the professionals if you feel that you must absolutely have the pressure released faster.

2. Keep it clean and practice good hygiene: While the boil is in the draining process, make sure you keep the area around the boil, as well as the boil itself, as clean and germ free as possible. At minimum, you should clean the area twice a day with a natural, antibacterial soap. Be sure to keep the infected area covered in between cleanings.

3. Apply the right natural topical ointments: Castor oil is great to use because it is a natural anti-inflammatory, which can help decrease swelling and speed up healing time.

Neem oil is also a great natural oil to use. It has antiseptic and antibacterial properties that are known to help other kinds of skin infections as well.

about 20 years ago Ii had a boil on my back. My daughter would help squeeze the pus out of it till it exploded in her face one day. she never touched it again. Eventually it became less inflamed and settled down but I have been left with a lump and what looks like a sunken blackhead in its place. It is still there hard and itchy much of the time. Sometimes it becomes sore because it gets rubbed on chair backs etc. is there anything I can do to soften and get this hard lump out without resorting to cutting?.
