Be nosy but not intrusive--don't go through their room? Kids have guns, pot pipes, bongs, drug and porn paraphernalia laying around and parents do need to poke around on occasion to keep them honest. Parents have a right to keep their house free from culture contaminants.

Parents should also let their kids know that their text messages will be audited and having technology requires playing by the rules.

I am not endorsing helicopter parenting but I do teach my patients' parents to take an active versus theoretical role when it comes to supervision. Overall excellent video!

Theres some nice information but i have to say that the approaches and methods mentioned here are outdated by now and definitely way underdeveloped. She only seem to understands and approach these topics from an academic point of view or even just like a "knowledge from the book" type of approach. Its lacking the emphasis on personal connection, building of relationships with your teens, understanding their trends and languages while keeping yourself updated with what's going on around their world. Teenagers, or understanding someone or human to human relationships ISN'T just simply like some fixed mathematical equation from the book you know...her approach is quite flawed in a way that it kind of suggests that teenagers or the approach to communicating with them are just like "1+1 = 2, if not then its 2+3 = 5 and there you go". You seriously need more research and development and see this topic from a more human level rather than from a academic perspective. Nice effort though.
