Depressed or Sad: Difference Between Depression and Mood Swings | MFine

Depressed or sad? What's the difference? How do you know when you could be suffering from depression? Depression is a mental health condition that is common and affects how an individual feels, thinks, and acts. While it can cause waves of sadness that last for 2 weeks or over, it is a mental health condition that can be treated. The symptoms of depression can vary from individual to individual, and can also vary in severity.

Symptoms of depression include feeling sad for most parts of most days, losing interest in things that once brought joy, weight loss or gain, insomnia or excessive sleeping, restlessness, feelings of hopelessness or worthlessness, problems concentrating, and in severe cases recurring thoughts of death or suicide.

Watch this video by top psychiatrist Dr. N Chandrashekhar to know where you will understand what depression means, how its diagnosed, and how it differs from the "usual blues." Mental health may have a stigma associated with it but that does not mean that you are alone. Depression can be treated, and understanding when to seek help is the first step.
