Beloved Chain Restaurants We Might Sadly Lose In 2022

More than any other type of business, restaurants have had a particularly rough go of things since the COVID-19 pandemic struck. According to The Real Deal, 14 percent of restaurants, or more than 90,000 in total, had shut down because of the pandemic. And that was as of mid-2021.

Quite a few more have surely shut down since then, and even more are only barely keeping the doors open, even with indoor dining returning in many locales. That isn't just limited to mom-and-pop eateries, either. Some major restaurant chains are in trouble. These are some of the beloved chain restaurants we might sadly lose in 2022.

Which of these chains are you worried about losing the most?

A former longtime top of executive of Pizza Inn is a good friend of mine. He explained to me that a new group that didn't understand the business came in and took over the company, got rid of all the experienced execs, changed everything, significantly downgraded the food to save money, etc. He went into painful detail. IMO their pizza now is about on the level of supermarket pizza. There are still some good things at the salad bar, but for that price I can go to Golden Corral that has better pizza and a million other things too.

Pizza Hut's quality has really gone down over the years, the only reason we ordered it was for stuffed crust, and once other pizza places with better quality put stuffed crust pizza's on the menu we stopped ordering from there completely

Relax! Pizza Hut’s not going anywhere—even if all the dine-in locations shutter, there will always be carry-out/delivery locations!

We had a pizza hut reopen in 2019 and we were excited!! Unfortunately, it was awful! The ingredients were lower quality than we were use to and it closed a year later.

As far as I'm concerned, Pizza Hut pizza quality has gone downhill. I started eating it in the 70's. Pan Pizza crust used to be basically fried on the bottom but not any more. Ruined it.

The biggest problem with Pizza Hut is there continual lack of specials on single pizzas every time I call them about coupons everything they have is for family meals...
One one person I just need a single pizza & if I'm going to have to pay nearly 20 bucks for it either way I'm going to go to a better pizza restaurant!
You want to stay in tune with your customers offer better specials!

My Pizza Hut ROCKED during the pandemic. Delivery was FAST. Food was fresh and hot everytime. The restaurants that delivered were selling smaller portions at the same price.

They ruined my local Pizza Hut a long time ago. They had some awesome pastas at one point, then they decided to switch from real chicken slices to that pressed together bologna type "chicken", which was a huge disappointment. A couple years after that they completely dropped the pastas and started selling wings instead. And while wings are decent once in a while, I'd much rather have good pasta any day. The quality of the pizzas eventually dropped as well as they started using a different dough. At this point, lower quality items and inconsistent workers have made me not care if I miss out on the next family pizza night.

All of the others listed I've either never heard of, never eaten at, or don't really care if they fall for one reason or another.

It would be really sad if Dave & Buster’s closes its doors for good. I really enjoy going there. I honestly hope that they can continue to survive.

I love how most of these companies blame and point fingers and skip over the main reason they end up failing…the food sucks! I had Pizza Hut a couple of months ago and it was AWFUL! I haven’t eaten at an Applebee’s in a couple of years. These places have terrible low quality food and wonder why they’re struggling. The executives quest for higher and higher profits are killing these companies.

Dave and Busters was getting ready to build a restaurant in my area right before Covid hit.

You missed TGI Fridays. Because it is privately owned, information may be difficult to find. It was scheduled to go public in early 2020. However, the pandemic caused those plans to be postponed indefinitely.

I remember years ago that Pizza Hut was the only pizza for me, but then something or someone happened to their pies and now I would take a Safeway pizza over the Hut.

Here, Ryan's closed a few years ago, didn't even tell employees. They showed up and saw a sign telling them it was closed forever.

A common theme seems to be "don't let one company be the franchisee for a statistically significant percentage of your locations." There were also a lot of stories about what happened to Old Country Buffet (at least locally) -- it seemed that the new corporate owners tried squeezing every possible penny out of their purchase without putting much in, and the whole house of cards came crashing down very suddenly. According to several news stories, they were even caught trying to sell off the contents of some locations in violation of the legal requirements of their bankruptcy filing.

I'm not surprised that Pizza Hut is in this video. They're so stale with their pizza. I've been complaining to them for years about the need to update their sauce so it's not so sickly sweet. Their crust also needs a lot of work because it is very dry.

I remember when the P'zones first came out, they were chock full of fillings. Now you're lucky if you get 3 pieces of pepperoni, a piece of cheese and a bit of sauce. I wil say one thing good is the boneless chicken wings. My Mom and I like ordering the boneless wings and fries from Pizza Hut, but that's all.

I remember pizza hut in the 90s as a kid tasting good!, not to mention the pizza hut resteraunt had a dessert bar in the back with a ice cream machine. Buffet style all you can eat with dessert included. God, I miss it.
