In December of 2018, a year and three months before Mike died I met him in Denver, Colorado at a Flat Earth convention. We had a 40 minute talk.
It's true he was not a Flat Earther. He was a promoter of himself, trying to make money on a big daredevil stunt. It's also true that his "day job" was a limo driver. He was smart in some ways, savvy and shrewd. However he did not know the science of rocket propulsion well. I know because I was trying to tell him what he was up against.
He didn't care whether his rocket would go high. He just cared if such a stunt would give him fame and money.
I'm not that kind of guy, but his honesty about his actual motives gave me respect for him.
He didn't know a thing about whether the Earth was flat and he didn't care about that.
I felt sad he died. Sincerely, I liked him.
