As a licensed plumber for over 15yrs. I hate when ppl use silicone to seal the drain to the sink. It's a pain to get off and a mess to clean. Don't do it. Plumbers putty works perfectly if you know what you're doing

Always think about the next guy having to take that damn drain off. Putty works fine. In the event that someone wants to change the trim color of the entire bathroom, then you're kinda screwed at that point by limiting options. Pipe dope works fine for the threads.

You forgot the standing water test. Fill sink up a ways and leave water standing in it for about 5 minutes to be sure your seal is good at the drain. Also, Lexel is not the right sealant for the drain. Use putty or use caulking specific for plumbing that is antimicrobial and wont mold.

Use plumbers putty--it works fine. Also, you need to fill the sink completely full and then open the drain to test for leaks.

Plumbers putty is $2 with a lid, you can use it dozens of times. Lexel $12 no lid.

If I'm doing private work for my own customers then I put silicone to seal it but if I'm at my day job where we're doing work in social housing, I use non setting putty so it's easier for the next guy. And for testing the trap, I run the water for a minute and then fill the whole bowl and let that drain so there's pressure there

Tip #5 put stops on first…
Tip #6 when you replace the rotten pop up … you’ll replace under mount sink to…
Putty always putty…
Tip # 7 if you tape it, dope it too 🤷🏻‍♂️

ONLY Putty

do not silicone strainers or you will have a very hard time removing it if replacement ever is needed…

you also need to add the sealer to the pipe at the bottom of the sink where rubber ring gets tight. Otherwise, the join will leak.

Add angle stops first to use water to test the sink. Also what’s the vent over the drain doing???

Lexel is permanent, probably the worst thing to use on any part that may be changed....EVER! Use putty, because it the right product for the job.

Tip number your angle stops before the drain and P-trap.

A proper water eat test is a full pressure test b filling the fixture with water that also test overflow. If it doesn’t leak with that test, it’s good to go. Thank you for the caulk selection I’m going to try it since I’m old school and still use plumber putty

notice he didn't angle stop and test anything.

Always shut drain and fill sink as well to see if it leaks thru then release

Thank you. I realized I hadn’t tightened the rubber gasket on mine enough.
