Talking to Google’s Gemini Live AI Voice Chat - Full Setup!

Hey everyone, I just got Gemini Live, and I’m excited to walk you through the full setup process, including the features that are still missing

**Step 1: Setup**

First things first—let’s get it set up. I started by heading to my Google One account, where I navigated to the Gemini Advanced section and made the purchase. After a quick phone restart, I noticed the speech icon appear on the right side of my Pixel screen.

**Impressive Features**

Now, let’s talk about what really impressed me.

• **No Latency:** One of the standout features is the lack of latency. I can ask questions, and Gemini Live responds almost instantly. For example, I said, ‘Tell me a fun fact,’ and it delivered right away.

• **Interruptibility:** Another feature I’ve always wanted in a voice assistant is the ability to interrupt. With Gemini Live, I can easily say, ‘Wait, stop—give me a different fun fact,’ and it smoothly transitions without missing a beat.

• **Voice Settings:** I’ve noticed that in some countries, users have access to voice selection settings, which can be access in the top right corner. Unfortunately, here in Canada, it seems we’re currently stuck with the default voice. Hopefully, that will change with future updates.

**How to Use Gemini Live**

To trigger Gemini Live, just click on the power button. If you want to pause the conversation, tap ‘Hold.’ To resume, tap ‘Continue.’ And when you’re done, just tap ‘End’ to wrap up the session.

**What’s Missing**

While Gemini Live is impressive, there are a few features that aren’t available yet:

• **App Integration:** I was hoping for integration with apps like Google Calendar, YouTube Music, and Google Keep, allowing me to interact with them without leaving the conversation. Unfortunately, that’s not here yet.

• **Camera Integration:** Another feature I’d love to see is camera integration. It would be awesome to show Gemini a problem or a whiteboard and get real-time assistance.

• **Voice Customization:** Different accents and speech patterns aren’t available in Canada, which is a bit disappointing. Customization options could really enhance the experience.

So that’s my initial take on Gemini Live. By the way it is only available on android right now. It’s a powerful tool with some great features, but I’m looking forward to seeing how Google expands its capabilities in the future.

Update: I got the voice selection to work. If you change your ai assistant language to English (United States) it will allow you to pick voices. I think I might go with eclipse but haven't decided yet

I was hoping that Google Calendar integration would be available now. Oh well, I'll look forward to that feature rolling out with my Pixel 9. Thank you for asking that question to Gemini!

Don't you think the voice recognition is terrible? I have to check the what the interpreter interpreted by ending the live call and checking the saved chat only to find that it messed up simple words horribly, confusing the model. Like bro it's so bad, like i talk about space and it brought world war 2 LMAO. I had to end call to check what was interpreted to be found amazed, how a simple word confused the model. Hope they fix it soon. ChatGPT's voice recognition is top notch that i sometimes use it for speech to text purpose lmao.

Please help me. I've got the paid version, made sure app was updated, restarted phone. I still can't get the live icon to show up. I'm using the galaxy ultra 24 so I know my OS is past the 12 needed. Thanks
