Interested in learning how to speak and understand another language using your Pixel Buds Pro? Here's how:

📱 You will need an Android phone and the Google Translate app¹
✅ Activate the assistant by saying “Hey Google” or press and hold the earbud then say “Help me speak Spanish” to launch conversation mode¹
🗣 When you’re ready to speak to someone in another language, press and hold the earbud and speak in your native language
🎤 Tap the microphone button under the language you want to be translated when they’re ready to respond
🗣 When the person responds, the translated message will play directly into your earbuds

That sounds like a feature of the app and not the ear buds.

Seems like something that can be done without the ear buds

I'm disappointed, when I saw the advert for this originally, I thought a phone wouldn't be required as it wasn't shown in the advert and I'd just hear the person's language translated into my ears.
If I need the phone out with the translation app, why would I need pixel buds pro? I could just use the microphone on the phone

Note: now any headphone or earphones which support Google fast pair support this feature. Working well on my JBL TUNE 230 NC

*See, I was about to buy these today and I held back on doing so thinking I'd better look to see how useful this would be first. I'm glad I just saw this because I figured I could just wear them and they'd just pick up other languages around me and instantly translate them to my preferred language for me to understand since I speak both English and Spanish. Apparently not. If what this video shows is how they work, ANY phone can do this. Definitely not purchasing these anymore.*

Sadly the feature doesn't actually seem to work properly on Pixel 6. I hear my own translated speech back to myself in the earbuds, and when I turn on the speaker, the translation instead goes to the earpiece, not the actual speaker. Great feature that needed a little more refinement.

I was going to buy this for my grandma but it looks too hard to use. So glad for this video

Comparing this to the Timekettle WT2 Edge, the pixel buds are missing the ability to hand off the 2nd earbud to another person, like family in-laws as an example, for real time conversion leaving the translate app open but without having to touch or look at the phone to make eye contact with the person you are talking too.

We need it more covert and less in your way. Once we can ignore the phone completely, you'll have a good product

It is a great innovation with a lot of potent energy. Something I would like to see next year- a special sleep mode with 8-9h of battery. Now we have some options such as Bose's sleeping buds, but they are far a away from their main goal. I just feel that Google could create this option more successfully. The second mode I would like to see in all google/Android buds is...the hearing mode. Again, with some serious battery. In that mode people with reduced hearing to be able to hear human voices more clearly and also some street noises better. I believe that the true power of Google is its human oriented policy and empathic care. And this power is unlimited by its nature.

This isn’t really active translation it’s just listening

Just got myself a set of bud pro and this is unbelievably clunky in real life. You constantly have to hold down a button for these things to pick up the spoken words from both parties. The video shows the waiter just openly speaking and that's not how this actually works. they have to hold a button on your phone.
It's super unnatural and prohibitive for pretty much all freeform travel interactions. What a bummer.
