I believe that Rudolf Steiner's depiction of "people without souls" were the true psychopaths as they lack empathy. I initially had a hard time accepting this as a possibility, but after seeing the actions and behaviors of these predators. I've come to accept this as self-evident.

The study showed that psychopaths have reduced connections between the ventromedial prefrontal cortex (vmPFC), the part of the brain responsible for sentiments such as empathy and guilt, and the amygdala, which mediates fear and anxiety.

I have to disagree with the theory that sociopaths are created in reaction to their environment or trauma. My younger brother was diagnosed with ASPD in his late teens, though showed all destructive and manipulative behaviours since he was a small child, progressing to criminal acts in early adolescence. We were brought up in an incredibly stable and loving home, yet his criminality and aggression increased exponentially over time, with him spending most of his adult life in prison or fighting addictions, and blaming the world for the state of his life. He takes absolutely no accountability, has a complete lack of empathy to those he hurts and threatens or inflicts extreme violence on those who refuse to give in to his demands and manipulation. It always perplexes me when the argument sociopaths are the result of nurture rather nature as is the case with psychopaths, when none of this applies in my brothers case. He was nurtured and loved and given the same support and guidance we all were. In some cases I believe sociopaths are the result of circumstance but some are born that way, and not created as wer’e led to believe, or that which apparently differentiates them from psychopaths

As a Psychology Major in College, it was taught, understood by the general public, that Siociopath was an outdated term. Psychopath was the correct term.

When I was a student nurse in paediatrics, we got a 3 Yr old girl admitted. She had this weird cold stare that gave you goosebumps. I was on the baby feeds ( in a room across from the toddlers cots) and as I came in with the feeds, this wee girl outstretched her arms to me. I went over and she gave me a big hug and asked to get out to get a book, it was nap time and I thought no harm, I let her out her cot and a baby started crying and I went over, but realised so was another baby in the next room..they stopped and a horrible cold feeling came over me, I pressed the emergency buzzer and rushed into the other room..the little girl was smothering the baby she looked up and saw me and just smiled! I was physically sick after that encounter and was moving wards anyway the next day. I heard a few years later that she was put into a centre fir disturbed kids as her parents couldn't handle her. Family pets had died and neighbourhood ones too...I truly believe she was a psychopath and born " evil" Often wonder what became of her

"Do they break laws?"
This just punched me in the stomach. Yes He does. And almost always gets away with it. But he isn't a person who loves praise and adoration. He is humble. Has his stuff in order. Earns good money. Has extremely little empathy. So I don't know what I'm dealing with.

Very interesting that you note the origins of these things and make the connection to morals and the soul. I recently converted to Orthodox Christianity, which you are aware of at least via Dostoevsky. In the Church writings, going as far back as 1900 years, there are texts with profound depth of understanding of what you would call, personality disorders. One excellent example is "The Sayings of St Dorotheos of Gaza" if you are interested. Are you familiar with these things?

In the new "Blade runner" there's a line: "Everyone thinks it's for them." It's like the robot mind was in a self delusion and then wakes up to it collectively. Have you seen it, and what do you think about the philosophical take away?

Have you ever heard of someone claiming they have asperger's to justify their anti-social behavior? My ex fits the discription of narcissist. He's unaware of my belief but he must either possibly know something is off with him by recently expressing this. Or he knows something more sinister is going on however. "Aspergers" makes it more excusable? 🤔 When we were splitting, I brought it up and suggested he should get tested or look further into what's going on with him. His response was "fuck no!"

This is how we were raised in schools here too. As a mother of two grown sons now, I totally agree with this. This here have totally changed, and not for the better.

Maybe that’s why a lot of psychopaths fake morality. Makes sense.

Thank you Richard, this is great. You've given a good easy way to distinguish what we are looking at here. Personally, I've always thought the ASPD term is dangerously misleading for the very reason you've laid out here, but that's just me. I agree with you on the last point, immorality is a good general starting point to define them.

This whole system of classifying the crazies needs a shake up. I agree with Richard that, despite a century of modelling, the hundred-year-old moral-based definition seems to be the most useful.

''a moral degenerate'' xD lol yep, that's exactly the description of my psychopathic brother.
