Reflecting absence. Let’s never forget.

“The focal points of the 9/11 Memorial are two pools, each nearly an acre in size, that sit in the footprints of the former North and South Towers. The pools contain the largest manmade waterfalls in North America, each descending 30 feet into a square basin. From there, the water in each pool drops another 20 feet and disappears into a smaller, central void.”

I can only imagine how huge those pools are in person, if each one is the size of each tower it has to be unbelievably massive in real life. I want to visit NYC so bad. I really need to go this summer to pay my respects.

It's crazy those giant square pools are actually all we have left of the Twin Towers, simply showing the footprints. I wish I could see this in person.

One of the most important days of my life was coming here and seeing my uncles name on the placards, just to give me closure that he hadn’t been forgotten and the people had made a place for him, it’s a beautiful part of the world that’s gave life to such heartache

9/11 was the first historical event I remember. I was 6. My mother picked me up from school and rushed me home. Everyone, I noticed, seemed to be rushing home. We lived on the same street as the school so we got home within minutes. It was just after 3 in the day, so just past 10am EST. About an hour after Tower 2 was hit. I didn't see the hits or Tower 2 collapse live. Tower 2 would have collapsed only 3 or 4 minutes before we got in, so we would have seen the very first repeats of the footage. Tower 1 went down about 20 minutes later. The news was on non-stop all week. We talked about it in school. It was enormous.

I visited New York three times from 2008 to 2010 and got to visit Ground Zero in 2009, not long before I turned 14, but by then it was all hoarded off. The hoarding was still covered in posters of people. I don't have much travel planned but I'd like to get back and see the memorial site.

Love from Ireland 🇮🇪❤🇺🇸

I'm old enough that I and millions of other people around the world watched and witnessed these attacks being unfolded .
I've seen ground level shots of the 2 memorial pools but not many Ariel shots and these gives you a realistic image how huge these towers were. I haven't been to New York, Pentagon nor the site in Pennsylvania yet, they're on my list to visit and pay our respects to those we lost and to those that moved on but not forgotten.

Something i learned recently about the towers is that the footprint of both towers is exactly an acre

Beautiful views!
...but for some reason, I thought the bases would be bigger, more massive somehow....

Is it the actual location where the towers stood?
