The tech is easy to make with the math. The issue is powering something like that. You would need the energy of a star/black hole stored in some sort of way like a battery cell. The biggest hurdle is harnessing that kind of power.

Best analogy I've heard for this: warp drive is like a surfboard. The surfboard doesn't move, it just harnesses the motion of the wave it's riding on. Similarly, a warp-capable ship doesn't really move at all, but it can ride the moving space around it. It's basically a surfboard that can generate its own waves.

I really and truly hope in my lifetime (I’m 43) that we get some small tiny cube-sat like object with a big ass whatever strapped to it, and even if it’s just like 1 second of travel, but at or above the speed of light successfully using anything approaching this science…that will be an amazing day.
